Guest guest
Sam, You can press more than one point at a time but you really want to focus your energy on the point at hand and project intent behind what you are trying to achieve. Now I was taught that you can work a whole channel at once. Actually the technique can involve more of tapping with ones fist on the region. Again just the way I was taught. Or you can apply pressure and work different areas. When you begin to work an area you will be able to tell when you have achieved the mission. Trust me the more you work with the person and adjust to their energy field you will know you will feel it. Another suggestion that might be helpful is to use a stimulation device. My point detector also has a button to stimulate the point with electrical current. Now in the days when my wife would not let me put needles in her (lol lol) this is what I used on her and had really good results. I would caution you about the cost of many of these devices. Mine is hand held and came in its own case for around $79 as I recall and I think that it works just as well. These are very beneficial on ear points. Now the doctor that I work with bought a stimulator that cost $1,000. now I am not sure of the difference other than hers should have cleaned her house weekly. I am confident that if you read Victoria's posts and get some good books on theory and point location you will be well on your way to needles. The accupressure will give you a good basis for feeling of energies. Good luck I am sure that Victoria can give far more pointers on accupressure than I. Guest guest
Victoria, I may follow yours (and Shane's) suggestion to begin with acupressure before moving on to needles. Questions: 1) One cannot easily press more than 1 or 2 points at a time. Since there are usually several points suggested for treatments...do you just do one point at a time, pressing for 5 to 10 minutes per point, until all the points are treated? If so, I can see where that could take a long time! 2) Would there be added benefits in pressing multiple points at once? I'm wondering about marking the various points with a pen, and then have my nurses or aids press several of the points at the same time. 3) A quick perusal of a few acupuncture book sites revealed lots of acupressure books. Is the one you suggested earlier all I need, or are there some others you like as well? Thanks. Sam ______________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! If so, I can see where that could take a long time! In some cases you can get 4 at a time - like Large Intestine 20 (Welcoming Perfume) and Stomach 3 (Facial Beauty) on the right and the left when you're treating for stuffy nose and head. The time you hold the points varies as does the pressure. Triple Heater 17 (Wind Screen) is tender so you apply light pressure. The duration can vary from 30 seconds to 2 minutes depending on what you're using it for. Acupressure's Potent Points says 2 minutes for most points for most reasons. But if a point is really sore and I know what it does and that I need it, I'll hold it and/or massage it for considerbly longer while watching TV. Some of this you can teach to others to help themselves and even as what I call " preventive maintenance. " For example, if you know someone who suffers from fatigue, you can teach them where Stomach 36 and the Sea of Vitality (Bladder 23 and Bladder 47) are. When they start to feel fatigued and need a little extra energy, they can massage or hold the points at their desk at work or on a coffee break or while watching TV. There are two points that are fairly good general points for insomnia - Kidney 6 (Joyful Sleep, aka Shining Sea) and Bladder 62 (Calm Sleep). If someone is prone to insomnia, the person can hold these points while watching TV before going to bed. In a person not prone to insomnia, they can result in a better quality of sleep. And these two points have other uses. If you still have the copy of Maciocia's Foundations, go to pages 424-425 and 429. But some individuals with insomnia will require other points. An old-fashioned heating pad or even hot water bottle can work wonders in some people who are Cold when you know where to place it for maximum benefit. Some people are going to demand that you do all the work, others are going to be the most grateful for you giving them the knowledge to help themselves. Some people are going to be the most impressed with exotic equipment, others are going to be the most impressed with fairly common and readily available (and relatively inexpensive) equipment they can buy themselves.
