There is a need for some tighter standards in acupuncture among some

practitioners. (understatement)

Thanks for bringing this to people's attention so if they do consult an

acupuncturist they can be more careful in who they select.

Dear Group,

I read an article a few months on the occasional mishaps with

acupuncture. It claimed that up to 35% of acupuncturists do not use

sterile technique.

I've watched an acupuncturist once a week for the last month or so. He

opens a sterile package that has the 32 gauge needle, and inserts it with

his bare fingers. Once the needle is superficially in place on the skin

--- he then grabs the needle by its body and twists it in deeper. The

part of the needle's body he grabs will often go into the patient. He

then goes to the next room and does the same thing to another patient ---

with no hand washing in between.
