Guest guest
Excess conditions are those that are caused by there being too much of something - too much bacteria, too much spicy food (Heat), too much raw and cold food (Cold), temperatures too hot during the summer and attacking the body (Heat), temperatures too Cold during the winter (Cold), etc. Deficiency conditions are due to there being too little of something. In the case of Deficiency Cold, there is too little Yang energy in the body (Yang Deficiency). Yang energy warms and energizes. In cases of Deficiency Cold the person feels cold most of the time, is sluggish and slow moving and talking, has a tendency to hypo-glandular states, etc. because there is not enough Yang energy to warm the body and promote biological processes. On the other hand, Yin energy cools and calms. Deficiency Heat conditions are due to there being too little Yin energy (Yin Deficiency) to cool and calm the body. People suffering from Deficiency Heat feel hot most of the time and have trouble cooling down, are nervous and agitated, and tend to move and speak rapidly. Qi Stagnation, Blood Stasis, and Phlegm are classified as Excess conditions. Another word for Excess is Full, and another word for Deficiency is Empty.
