Guest guest
In a previous post we saw that Dr. Maciocia recommends the following points for Kidneys Refusing to Receive Qi: Kidney 3 Lung 7 and Kidney 6 Stomach 36 Bladder 23 and Governing Vessel 4 Conception Vessel 6 Governing Vessel 17 Kidney 25 Governing Vessel 12 Kidney 7 Keep in mind as we go into these points that the general principle of treatment is to tonify and warm the Kidneys, to stimulate the Kidney's receiving Qi, and to stimulate the descending of the Lung Qi. Also keep in mind that Kidneys Refusing to Receive Qi is a Deficiency disorder and a variation of Kidney Yang Deficiency. Keep these things in mind, and it will become clearer why Maciocia recommends these particular points. I also want to point out that you're already familiar with some of these points in regard to their use in other things. The most significant point in terms of getting the Kidneys to receive Qi is Kidney 25. One of the main uses of Ki 25, Mind Storage, is to get the Kidneys to receive Qi. In addition, Ki 25 as well as Ki 24 (Spirit Burial Ground) and/or Ki 23 (Mind Seal) have the properties of tonifying the Kidneys and calming the Mind/ Spirit. Considering that not being able to breathe will engender anxiety, the calming property of Ki 25 is also good in addition to its property of encouraging the Kidneys to Receive Qi. Ki 25 and a well-chosen Lung point by themselves will be enough in a lot of cases to ease breathing. So why is Maciocia recommending all those other points in addition to Ki 25 and a Lung point? Keep in mind that Kidneys Refusing to Receive Qi is a variation of Kidney Yang Deficiency. is very concerned with identifying and treating root causes instead of merely treating symptoms. Kidneys Refusing to Receive Qi is happening against a background of Kidney Yang Deficiency. In order to really treat the problem of Kidneys Refusing to Receive Qi you need to treat the background problem which is enabling the Refusing to Receive Qi. You need to treat the Kidney Yang and generalized Kidney Deficiency. You need to tonify the Kidneys so they won't be so weak. Most of the points he recommends are points which are very helpful in treating Kidney Deficiency in general and Kidney Yang Deficiency in particular. Let's look at some of these. Ki 6, Shining Sea or Illuminated Sea as some texts translate it, will nourish Kidney Yin and Yin in general. Whenever a person is Kidney Yang Deficient, you can just about bet that there will be some degree of Kidney Yin Deficiency too. Not as much as there is Yang Deficiency, but it needs to be addressed too. Ki 6 is one of those points that gets used a lot for Kidney imbalances. It also has the property of relieving edema. In addition, this is another point that calms the Mind. Some people use acupressure on Ki 6 before bed just to help them have a restful sleep. Ki 3, Greater Stream, is the Source point of the Kidneys. This means that using this point can draw from the Original Qi. Ki 3 is used to treat both Kidney Yang and Kidney Yin Deficiency. This is one of the first points beginners should memorize because of its importance in treating Kidney imbalances. Ki 7, Returning Current, is very good for tonifying Kidney Yang. It's even better than Ki 3 when it comes to Kidney Yang. Kidneys Refusing to Receive Qi is a variation of Kidney Yang Deficiency, so you want to put an accent on boosting the Kidney Yang; hence, the use of two points which help Kidney Yang. Stomach 36, Three Mile Point, is one which has been covered on here before. I believe it's also highlighted on the acupuncture-clinic website. This is one of those points which help fatigue. It got its name from the story that exhausted solders who worked this point could march 3 more miles due to the increased energy. What the point does is to tonify Qi in general. St 36 gets used a lot in chronic conditions because a lot of times in chronic conditions the Qi has been weakened. In this particular case St 36 also helps the cold sweating problem which a manifest in Kidneys Refusing to Receive Qi. (Excessive sweating can be a sign that Qi is Deficiency, especially Protective Qi (Wei Qi). Bladder 23 is another point which has been mentioned on here before. It along with B 47 comprise the SEa of Vitality. These are two that get used when people suffer from fatigue. And there no fatigue as severe as Yang Deficiency Fatigue. Governing Vessel 4, Gate of Life, is one that is very important. This is the most powerful point there is for tonifying Yang in general and Kidney Yang in particular. It is so powerful that many acupuncturists won't use it if there is Heat anywhere in the body, even if the person is extremely Yang Deficient and has a great deal of internal Cold. Conception Vessel 6, Sea of Energy, is another point which has been covered on here. Remember the post of Hara breathing. This point tonifys Qi and Yang and will help to move stagnant Qi. It also draw Qi down into the abdomen. Conception Vessel 17, Sea of Tranquility, is one that gets used for a lot of conditions. In the case of Kidneys Refusing to Receive Qi, it's the properties of tonifying Qi and stimulating the Lung descending property which is important. Governing Vessel 12 tonifies Lung Qi and gets used in chronic conditions. Lu 7 and Ki 6 in combination open the Directing Vessel and encourage the Kidneys to Receive Qi. The Directing Vessel is another word for the Conception Vessel. Victoria --== Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ ==-- Before you buy. Guest guest
Victoria, As you know I'm taking a correspondence course on TCM. I did my first assessment of a young woman yesterday who I believe has the signs of Kidneys Refusing to Receive Qi. I'm waiting for the teacher to let me know if I am on the mark with the diagnosis. What herbs should be used? I thought Rehmannia Eight would be appropriate. I could post the whole diagnosis if you think it would be interesting to other readers and yourself. Thanks for these acupuncture points. I got a copy of Acupressure's Potent Points and will try to find them in the book and recommend that she apply acupressure to them. I would also like to try using energy therapy or Reiki to work on the points and see what effect that would have.
