Guest guest
I've learned something this past week. The weather can have even more of an effect on allergies and food sensitivities than I realized. Even Western, establishment medicine recognizes some connections between weather and allergies. Most allergy doctors advise patients to stay indoors with the windows shut and the air ionizers on during windy weather. The rationale for this is the pollen is getting blown around more during windy weather and the air freshner is removing allergens from the air in the house. Few doctors realize that the reason for having an ionizer along with the air filter is that it places negative ions into the air whereas wind creates an excess of positive ions. All this is true and enough reason to stay indoors with the air filter with ionizer on during windy weather during pollination season. But few Western doctors realize that the rationale behind this actually goes even deeper than this. Exterior attack by wind and other pernicious evils can create the symptoms of allergy - stuffy nose and sinuses, nasal secretions, itchy and dry eyes, sore throat, sneezing, etc. Sometimes the person does have allergies, in which case the person is getting hit with a double whammy. The stuffy nose and other problems from both the allergic reactions and from the effects of the wind. Talk about making a bad situation worse. In other cases the person may not have actual allergies, but may be having the symptoms of allergies simply due to exterior wind attack. Western allergy doctors also recognize a connection between dampness and certain allergies. If a person has an allergy to a lot of molds, the allergy doctor will recommend that the person avoid dampness and invest in a dehumidifier. Again, the Western understanding of why these things help falls short of the TCM understanding of why certain things help and others hurt. The Spleen is particularly vulnerable to Dampness, and Spleen imbalance can play a role in the development and continuation of allergies. A TCM healer is going to consider the Spleen and Dampness in all cases of a tendency to develop allergies, and not just allergies to molds and mildew. This past week I learned that weather can influence both allergies and sensitivities even more than I realized. I have been feeling so much better than I used to and my allergies have diminished so much that I've been overdoing on the physical work and ignoring the wind and the fact that something is pollinating that I'm allergic to. I've been working out in the wind. As a result my allergies and sensitivities have started acting up again. It's not too bad and not like it used to be, but it's bad enough for me to decide that I still need to take the precaution of staying inside with windows closed and the air ionizer on when the wind is blowing and certain plants are pollinating. And also to be more careful about overdoing during this time. I also realized that eggs are bothering me as a result of the effects of the wind. Usually eggs are one of the best things I can eat given my problems with recurring mononucleosis. Some alternative healers use eggs in treating mononucleosis and AIDS. There's something in them that fights some viral infections. So usually eggs are good for me and make me feel better. But not this week. There have been periods before when eggs bothered me. I didn't understand why. After this past week I understand why I sometimes am bothered by them whereas they usually help me. The wind is somehow affecting me in a way that is causing a food sensitivity to eggs. In my case, this is not an allergy but a sensitivity. I know because one time before I asked an allergy doctor about the problem when I was experiencing the problem with eggs. Looking back, I realize that a lot of these other times when eggs bothered me, it was during periods of a lot of wind. Please be alert to the fact that weather conditions can aggravate or even cause both allergies and sensitivities. In addition to being bothered by eggs, I have quite a few of the symptoms of Wind Attacking Externally and heading for the Interior. I now am avoiding the great outdoors when the wind is blowing and taking precautions. Victoria --== Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ ==-- Before you buy.
