Guest guest
Bi Syndrome is arthritis and rheumatism. Bi is blockage of Qi and Blood in the channels by Cold, Wind, and/or Damp. Many Western doctors and sufferers recognize that cold and damp can aggravate arthritis, but few realize that wind also can aggravate arthritis. Symptoms and treatment will vary according to which of the 3 or combination of the 3 is causing the problem. When the main problem is Wind, the pain will tend to wander around the body. First one area hurts and then another. The patient may even have problems pinpointing where the pain is, instead experiencing a sort of vague, diffuse pain. (This is similar to Qi Stagnation in that the pain associated with Qi Stagnation also will change location and wax and wane in severity.) Chinese Clematis is good for this condition. When the main problem is Dampness, the pain will stay in a fixed area. There may also be a sensation of heaviness associated with the pain because Dampness is heavy. A good example of what is meant by pain associated with Dampness is what many women experience each month right before their periods start. They're retaining water and are sore and achy. (This pain is not Bi Syndrome pain but often is due to Stagnation of Liver Qi and Dampness accumulation.) Strictly speaking Bi pain refers to arthritis and rheumatism and branches of these disorders like Fibromyalgia Syndrome due to Cold, Wind, and/or Dampness obstructing the Qi and Blood in the channels.
