In the previous post you learned the Liver opens into the ears and controls

seeing.

There are other correspondences like this.

The Kidney opens into the ears and influences hearing. Thus, the Western medical

condition tinnitus (ringing in the ears) frequently will be due to problems in

the Kidney. (Tinnitus also can be due to problems in the Liver, but it's usually

the Kidney).

The Lung opens into the nose, and influences smell. Problems with the sense of

smell may indicate problems in the Lung.

The Spleen opens into the lips and influences the sense of taste. It is said

that a person whose Spleen is in balance will be able to taste all 5 flavors

easily. Problems with the sense of taste may indicate problems in the Spleen.

The Heart opens into the tongue and influences speech. Problems in speaking -

like stuttering - may indicate problems in the Heart.

If you ever take a TCM style questionnaire, you will be asked questions

concerning the senses and parts of the body. For example, in the section dealing

with the Kidney, there will be questions concerning your ears and hearing. An

affirmative answer indicates to the healer that there may be problems in the

Kidney.

Likewise, questions concerning the eyes and vision will be under the Liver

section.

The healer will be noting the state of your lips as these can reveal problems in

the Spleen and/or Stomach. Questions about your sense of taste may or may not be

revealing. Sometimes people know they have a problem with their sense of taste,

but often there may be a problem and the person may not realize it until after

there is improvement.

The TCM healer will be noting your speech to see if there are indications of

Heart problems. A tongue diagnosis actually reveals a lot more than just the

state of the Heart. It can reveal general imbalances (i.e., Heat, Cold, Excess,

Deficiency, etc.) as well as help to pinpoint which meridians and organ systems

may be affected.

Questions about your nose and sense of smell may reveal problems in the Lung.
