In TCM and in any balanced holistic approach, " attacking the Evil or a symptom " will not help in dealing with the root issue, so problems can occur repeatedly. As far as the warming versus cooling herbs...it's always important to remember to take stock of where you are on a daily basis...outside conditions...that is, WIND, may mean a need for more of one type of herb than another. The weather here in southeast virginia has been a bit wacky...getting up to the 80s and now into the 50s F during the day. I've gone from leaning toward cooking more foods to trying to incorporate more raw foods--beets, carrots and cabbage-- back to more cooked. Put a pot of Siberian Ginseng, Astragalus, Schisandra and Shittake to decoct overnight on the woodstove as it's been cool enough at night to require the stove once again.
