Guest guest
>I am studying to be an acupuncturist and work on my uncle for allergies as he >is very chemically sensitive. I know that he responds well to the >acupuncture but really do not know if acupressure would be helpful at all it >might be worth a try. The points that I use are: LI20, St 2, UB2, Yin Tang, >UB 7, LI 4 (which we use for everything LOL). In an earlier post we concentrated on LI 4 (Large Intestine 4 - Joining the Valley - Hoku). LI 4 is a point for treating constipation and sluggish bowel movements. This point gets used a lot in acupuncture and acupressure because in so many conditions it's important to keep the bowels moving properly. This point is contraindicated for pregnant women because it can bring on premature labor. Today I'll try to give the directions for finding B2 (Bladder 2), also known as Drilling Bamboo. B2 is located " in the indentations of the eye sockets, on either side of where the bridge of the nose meets the ridge of the eyebrows. " (Acupressure's Potent Points, p. 60) Slide your finger up the side of your nose until you reach the upper ridge of the eyesocket and then slide it over just a little. Your finger is right under the beginning of your eyebrow on the ridge. Massage the area. If you need to be holding B2, chances are you will be able to tell exactly where it's at. The spot will be sore when you rub it. Hold this point or massage it for a minute or two. You can do both B2 points at the same time. Some people use their thumbs, some use their index fingers. I find that tilting my head forward onto the thumbs or index fingers helps to get better pressure on the point. Drilling Bamboo is used to treat a number of conditions: Stuffy nose, head congestion, burning eyes, eye fatigue, eye pressure, sinus pain, HEADACHES, blurry vision, red and watery eyes, hay fever, and eyestrain. (Some of the uses listed in Acupressure's Potent Points.) Chances are at some point in your life when you had a cold or the flu, sinus congestion, a headache, etc., you instinctively started rubbing this area because it helped. You have now been introduced to two points on the Bladder meridian - B 36 (Bearing Support) and B 2 (Drilling Bamboo). B36 is on the back, " near the spine, off the tips of the shoulder blades. " " According to traditional Chinese medicine, wind and cold enter the pores of the skin at this point. The muscles in this upper back area tend to get tense just before a cold or flu takes hold. " (Acupressure's Potent Points, p. 59) I'm emphasizing the Bladder meridian because later on you're going to learn that the Bladder and Small Intestine meridians are the first meridians to come under attack by Exterior evils. Later on you'll be learning about Cold-induced Evils (aka the Thoery of the Six Stages of Damage by Cold Evil). The first stage is TaiYang-stage (Greater Yang- stage) Evil. The two TaiYang (Greater Yang) meridians are the Small Intestine (hand) and Urinary Bladder (foot). The Bladder meridian starts on the face, goes over the top of the head, down the back, down the back and toward the outside of the leg, along the top outer edge of the foot, and ends on the small toe. The Bladder meridian is the longest in the body with 67 bilateral (on the right and on the left) points. The flow of energy is descending, from top to bottom. The Small Intestine meridian on the little finger and goes up the top edge of the hand, up the back of the arm, transverses the shoulder blade, and terminates on the face. The flow of energy is ascending. The SI meridian has 19 bilateral points. The only thing you need to remember about the Bladder and Small Intestine meridians at this point in time is that when a person is under attack by External Evil, especially by Cold and/or Wind, there very often will be pain, numbness, a sensation of cold or heat (usually cold), soreness, or other odd sensations along the segments of the Bladder or Small Intestine meridians. Very often symptoms like frontal headaches, sinus and nasal congestion, etc. are being caused by one or both or these meridians being under attack. They're usually the first two meridians to feel the attack of Exterior Evil, especially Cold and/or Wind Evil. There are points on these two meridians that can knock out or at least ease headaches, nasal and sinus congestion, etc. within seconds or minutes when the problems are coming from these two meridians. The Bladder and Small Intestine meridians lie very close to the surface of the body and usually come under attack first. Note that it's the Bladder and Small Intestine *meridians* that are under attack in TaiYang-stage evil, and not the bladder and small intestine. TaiYang-stage Evil is completely Exterior. There has been no penetration of the Evil to the Interior of the body. TaiYang-stage Evil and all Exterior attacks are characterized by pains and aches in the muscles, the head, the arms, and the legs. If there are pains inside the trunk of the body (stomach hurting, lower abdominal area, lungs, etc.), the evil has penetrated to the Interior and different treatments are called for. Exterior attack is not as serious as Interior attack and easier to get rid of than Interial. It's not as serious in terms of being life-threatening. This does not mean that one of these attacks cannot be extremely painful. I used to keep a headache most of the time. When one of these headaches really got a hold on me, the pain was extreme. Plus, by that time, in addition to the very severe and crippling headache, I was having problems like nausea (the Evil was penetrating to the Interior). All I wanted to do was lie still in a dark room. These headaches were so bad that a shot of Demarol in the emergency wouldn't even knock one out. The best the shot could do was to blunt the pain a little so I could sleep through the worse of it. And it would take a few days to the headache to be over. As it turned out, applying heat and or pressure to some key points on the Bladder and Small Intestine meridians will knock out one of these headaches in seconds or minutes, something that strong drugs could not do. Using these points has also reduced my tendency to get headaches. I go for months now without a headache even threatening whereas before most of the time I either had a headache or had one starting. Please do not confuse Exterior attack with not being crippling in some cases. Also, if not treated, Exterior attacks can move to the Interior (the nausea and vomiting).
