Guest guest
Guna is an Ayurvedic term which refers to the effect of an herb on the mind-body interaction. The 3 are sattva, rajas, and tamas. Sattva is a balanced state of being: Light, perception, intelligence, and harmony. People with a sattvic quality " will value truth, honesty, humility, and altruism. " (Wicke, 2nd text, p. 11). Herbs that are strong in the sattvic quality are myrrh, frankincense, ginger, and cardamom. Myrrh and frankincense are used in religious ceremonies throughout the world. Rajas is energy, activity, emotion, turbulence. Tamas is inertia, darkness, dullness, resistance, and ignorance. Some examples of tamasic herbs are garlic, nutmeg, and opium. Ayurvedic healers will use rajas and tamas to balance each other. If the person is too rajas, tamasic herbs are used to balance the person. If the person is too tamas, rajas herbs are used. The book didn't list examples of rajas herbs. Victoria --== Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ ==-- Share what you know. Learn what you don't.
