As a newcomer to TCM I like the yang in the yin and the yin in the yang

phenomenea. The familiar logo showing a circle split by an S with dots

of the opposite in each, is what I refer to. Without the dots either

side of the circle would vanish. These are called modicums but they are

symbolic in that the dot isn't all in one place. For example, the

universe is yin and all exterior to it is yang. Within the universe is a

particle of yang. Then what is in the extra-universal but a synthesis of

the yin universe? Yin in yang there is really scattered all over the

outside of the universe, instead of grouped in the dot. Yin and yang are

identical with Being and Nothingness, the classic dichotomy, and are in

everything. TCM is using this function to treat disease by recognizing

opposites in each other. Later.
