Guest guest
Hi Tammatha, May I ask where you purchase your greens and fruit for in your drinks ? I am in Bedford, PA and the only grocery stores we have are Weis and Giant Eagle, both of which have dreadful produce. Weis does have a small organic section but every time I’ve bought from there, it tastes like crap and the texture reminds me of something that’s well on it’s way to rotting, yet it still is very pricey. Also, what do you do when the produce you use for your drinks are out of season ? There’s not much of a choice in the off seasons here and what there is is imported. This is the problem we have. We would love to be able to go vegan but there just is no place around here to buy good, nutritional produce that doesn’t break the bank. Sometimes it seems like only people with money can afford to be healthy & it really makes me sad ( Blessings, Tami Kale can be eaten a much tastier way...There is a very popular book called " Green For Life " by Victoria Botenko. It is full of delicious recipes for Green Smoothies. It is a great way to get tons of greens in ones life so they taste great and you can consume more because it is liquid. I do kale mixed with blueberries, blackberries, maybe even cherries and a banana. Tastes great. You definately need a Vitamix to make these wonderful drinks. The best one to me is mango, banana and spinach. Sounds strange but you wouldn't believe how creamy, yummy it is! Tammatha
Guest guest
Hi Tami, Is there any community supported agriculture co-ops in your area? Otherwise known as CSA, I found this link when travelling to upstate New York this summer. http://www.pickyourown.org/PYO.php?URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.localharvest.org We have found that our corporate based food supply is to be avoided if at possible. This led us to finding food co-ops. We run a dry one (lentils and nuts, etc) and belong to a fresh one (produce). The produce is 100% organic and the dry goods are almost all organic. As a result, we rarely shop at grocery stores. Can you start calling around to see if any health food stores know of a farm in your area? I know what you mean about produce at grocery stores. On our way to Upstate New York (coming down from Montreal way), we located an organic farmer's market and loaded up on produce to consume while visiting relatives. When that ran out I went to the shops. All I could think of was that produce looked dead. Blech Kind regards, Janet -- " The need for peace and understanding between the peoples of the world has never been as great as now. Guest guest
Hi Tami, Well I live in Northern California, Sonoma County to be exact, just about the best weather in the country so we have access to just about everything year round. Sorry...lol it must be frustrating to hear! Most of my veggies & fruit I get from Whole Foods, which it sounds like you don't have unfortunately, overall it is a great store? Also, I get them at a great indoor/outdoor neighborhood produce market called "Andy's" you must have something like this, hope so? They have alot of local produce...and then we have Farmer's Markets in every town around here. Do you have them? My suggestion would be to check online for home delivery, it is becoming very popular to have produce delivered that doesn't break the bank. There is a great website doortodoororganics.com that I found for you that looks great and delivers in your area I believe. They will do customs orders and have vegan recipes of the week from a local culinary school. Check it out it may work for you, and good for you on trying to go vegan, you will feel great inside your body and benefiting the planet and animals too, it is a win win situation! Guest guest
Hello Tammatha ) Yes, I am jealous, of course ;o) We have no Whole Foods stores around here, in fact I never even heard of Whole Foods until I started down this path a little over a year ago. I thought when someone mentioned “Whole Foodsâ€, they were talking about food and not a store, LOL ! I just couldn’t figure out why they capitalized those words and was very confused at first, so that gives you an idea of how naïve I was/am *embarrassed giggle* We have a produce market here, but it doesn’t stay open all year ‘round. In fact, it’s fixing to close in the next few days and won’t reopen again until Spring ( We bought some produce there this past summer and I have to say, it was nothing to write home to mom about……very disappointing indeed. Also in the summer there is a Farmer’s Market right in town on Weds. & Sats. My husband and I went to it one time and all they had was flowers and some baked goods and some guy handing out bottles of water with a flyer to go to his church *sigh* That guy “caught†us before we even got inside the perimeter, LOL, so we were turned off almost immediately, LOL ! There’s an area about a half hour away from here that is “sprinkled†with little road side stands, here and there, with fresh produce for sale but here again, they are only ‘open’ for a short time…….up until the beginning or middle of Sept……..and we didn’t make it over there this year because of gas prices. Now that gas has come down, they aren’t open ( The black cloud over our head can leave any time now, hehehe Anyway, I appreciate the link you sent and the time you took to find it for me, very much, and will check it out ASAP ! )) Blessings and have a wonderful day, Tami Hi Tami, Well I live in Northern California, Sonoma County to be exact, just about the best weather in the country so we have access to just about everything year round. Guest guest
Hi Tami, Boy, this really stinks, so sorry you have such difficulty, as ridiculous as it sounds...it appears you need to move just to be healthy. It looks like the delivery service is your only option. It maybe a bit expensive, who knows, but in the long run being ill is abundantly more expensive. Hopefully the doortodoor.com will do it for you. Good Luck my dear. Tammatha - --- Original Message ----- Tami Walsh oleander soup Monday, November 03, 2008 5:36 AM RE: TAMMATHA To Janet herceptin?
