Guest guest
As I sit here with my girls teeheeing at me I thought I'd describe how I look in my bathing cap underneath which is a plastic bag underneath which is a head full of henna. Like a dork,OK? In light of the recent deodorant posts I thought I'd remind folks that hair dye should be avoided! Because I still have a healthy supply of vanity and insecurity as it relates to my grey hair, I switched to henna. Fabulous stuff to put on your hair - makes it healthier and there has been some research to suggest it gets rid of lice. Guest guest
Hello Janet ) Another Henna gal !! )) I have been using Henna on my hair since June of 2007, after having my hair chemically died at a salon since the mid ‘90’s. My hair felt like hay (now the Henna makes it smell like hay *giggle*) and wasn’t too appealing to the touch, but looked good. Now my hair feels wonderful and looks soooo healthy and I’ve even grown it long and it’s not breaking off or getting split ends like it used to !! I get my Henna from morroccomethod dot com and I use all his shampoos and conditioners, too, which I really love ) I’m having a little issue with my Henna, though…..maybe you could enlighten me ;o) I’ve been having to “touch-up” my hair, especially around my face, about every 2 wks. and wonder what I’m doing wrong, if anything? Henna’s supposed to last approx. 3 mos., so this is just baffling to me ! It’s almost like it “washes off” when I wash my face…..and I’ve tried everything to try and not get my hairline wet, but it’s impossible ! Now I have some Neutral Henna (colorless) that you’re supposed to use if you’re a first time Henna user to help the Henna ‘stick’ to the hair better and was wondering if I need to use some of this, even though I’ve been coloring my hair with Henna for over a year ? The web site I buy my Henna from has a forum to ask questions and I posed this question to them but haven’t heard anything back yet ( As it stands right now, I have almost a half inch of gray showing around my face (YIKES !!!) and we are supposed to go to a surprise birthday party tomorrow afternoon ! I don’t want to have to wear a black scarf over my head to cover up those roots, LOL ! Would you have any suggestions that might help reduce the time period between coloring and root touch-ups ? It’s getting really frustrating having to do this every coupla weeks ( Thanks a bunch, Tami As I sit here with my girls teeheeing at me I thought I'd describe how I look in my bathing cap underneath which is a plastic bag underneath which is a head full of henna. Guest guest
Hi Tami You ole hennahead! I have to henna my head every week. My hair grows that fast. You are experiencing fast growth not the henna wearing out I suspect. I have heard this on another forum, women need to touch up very often. I sometimes just make up a bottle and stick it in the freezer then just do a touch up then every several weeks do a major dye job you know? Is it just around your face? What about your part? The worst for me is around the ears and my part. My hair has become luxurious. I let it grow really long - looks so healthy compared to the chemical crap I was using! The only downside to it is that you have to set aside the whole dang day to doing it. Good luck Janet 2008/10/31 Tami Walsh <tamiickes Hello Janet ) Another Henna gal !! )) I have been using Henna on my hair since June of 2007, after having my hair chemically died at a salon since the mid '90's. Guest guest
*giggle* Janet…..I just noticed today that yes, my part has the gray showing, too ! UGH ! I had no idea my hair grew this fast ! I don’t believe it ever did before, but it seems to have been growing like a weed since right before June of this year ! My hair has some layers left over from when I was getting it cut at the salon and I’m trying to let it all grow out so that my hair can be trimmed to all one length, as Anthony Morrocco suggests on his web site where I buy all my hair products. I just have my sister trim the ends (not the ends of the layers, though) every coupla months up to the next layer, but haven’t even had a chance to have her do it since right before Spring, so that’s why I’m so perplexed as to why my hair would be growing so fast ? It usually gets a really good growth spurt right after trimming, but this time……. Oh well…..I don’t care because I want my hair to get long. Never had long hair before and when I was younger when my hair started getting long, it would get real bushy because my hair is so thick, so my mom would always have me keep my hair short…….and I absolutely HATED it !! LOL ! I couldn’t wait to be able to have some semblance of control over my hair when I got older, hehehe. Anyway, I’m relieved to know it’s not just the Henna “washing” off ! I was really starting to get turned off of using it because I wasn’t thinking clearly. I didn’t even think to look at my roots at my part. It makes sense now because I don’t have a need to wash my hair nearly as much as I used to before using Henna and so how could the color be washing off the roots on top of my head if I’m only washing my hair once or twice a week, at the most ? Dumb, dumb, dumb *slaps forehead* How long do you leave your Henna in your hair, if you don’t mind me asking ? I was leaving mine in around 2 hrs. at first and then I read that if you leave it in up to 4 hrs., the color will be become more intense, so I usually do like 3 ½ to 4 hrs. generally. Sometimes I just can’t wait that whole 4 hrs. ! It’s really hard trying to do things when you have cement on your head, LOL ! I actually looked (and felt !) quite comical the first time I got up from the chair I was sitting in after having Henna put on my head…….I staggered all over the place because my head was so “heavy” and I kept ‘leaning’ in the direction my head wanted to go from all the weight, LOLOLOL ! Omg…..hilarious ! hehehe I noticed you said about freezing the Henna, so I’m assuming you are using a different kind of Henna than I do ? The kind I use is in powder form and I have to make tea water and mix that in after it cools (a Green Tea bag will make a light shade of Henna and a black tea bag will make it darker). I have to make the Henna into a consistency similar to face cream and then let it sit to “activate” for exactly 2 hrs. before applying to hair, so essentially, yeah……it really is almost an all-day event ! I’m not sure I would be able to freeze the kind I have or not, though? I just might pose this question to the morroccomethod forum and see what Anthony has to say about his Henna. When you do “the major dye job”, do you only do one application ? The Henna I get suggests doing up to 3 to get a deeper, richer color. This last time I only did 2 just because I was annoyed at having all my time taken up by my Henna-ed-up hair, LOL ! My worse spots are all around my face down to and including my ‘side burns’…….those little hairs are really hard to get without dying your skin (even after putting a little Vaseline on the skin to repel the coloring process) and/or making what looks like blackheads, YUCK ! Well ! It’s been so nice talking to you about Hennaing our hair ! I’m so glad I’m not the only one that’s doing this…….did you know that Lucille Ball used Henna to achieve her gorgeous red hair ? This stuff makes me feel like a movie star ;o)) Blessings, Tami Hi Tami You ole hennahead! I have to henna my head every week. My hair grows that fast.
