Guest guest
My dad is allergic to cat scan dye. He gets really bad hives and can'tbreath. They've mentioned that the dye is iodine. My question is--is this the same iodine that a person uses for helping thethyroid? I have been considering using external applications of 7% iodineon him to help with his thyroid--but if it is the same iodine as the catscan dye then I would not want to put it on, naturally.Any thoughts or experience with this? Renee, My dad was allergic to the dyes too but he was able to get it this past time because they gave him benadryl before he got the dye, it worked! Guest guest
Thanks Bonnie. I'll keep that in mind. But I'm not worried about him getting a cat scan, I was thinking of giving him iodine transdermally, but need to know if the dye is the same type of iodine as what I'd be giving him transdermally (or even orally, though I think transdermal in his case is better). If the transdermal approach would give him the same reaction as the dye, then I won't be able to do it. I wanted to build up his iodine supply in his system. Guest guest
Oh, I already know that transdermal iodine works. I just don't know if Dad can have iodine because of his allergy to Cat Scan dye, which is iodine. But I've been told that they are 2 different types of iodine, so it should be safe for him to take the transdermal. All you do is put a silver dollar size dot on your body, someplace that you can't see it because it does turn your skin yellow. Then you wait and see how long it takes to disappear. The faster it disappears, the more you need it. It should stay 12 hours. I use to read it should stay 24 hours, but in many places now I've read 12. Anyway, if it disappears in less than 12 you apply another dot the next day. Keep doing this until the dot stays 12 hours. After that, you just do an upkeep once a month. Also, it is good to either take a few drops of Lugol's in water or juice while doing this, or take kelp.
