I totally agree with you. Today was a ton better. Not perfect, but

getting better and better. I am only taking the HCL twice a day with

enzymes also. Gonna start out small and work my way up to healed.

when you stop the anti acid meds you will get a re-bound effect and

also the introduction of HCl may have shocked your stomach, I took it

yesterday and did feel some pain but no acid so maybe the LES is

closing or relaxing less but the increased acid my stomach does not

like, I have by the way been eating tiny meal, I mean one bowl (small

one) and bland as well like cooked apples and herb tea like ginger and

bitters in it. Also taking the apple cider vinegar with bicarb of soda.

I only notice that when my bp bothers me because it is quite high, it often occurs after taking the swedish bitters. It stays high until i take meds to lower it. I wonder which ingredient would cause it.

Melly,

We have a type of high bp from ny mom's side of the family. It is completely avoided, in my case, by only using products with the lowest possible sodium content. Things that have helped some of my patients to get off the meds include a half tablespoon of argenine powder in the morning on an empty stomach. (This one is often miraculous). With cancer present there are differing opinions about the use of argenine, so be aware of that.

I also find dandelion root tea to be very effective, especially if fluid retention is presernt.

I'm not sure what component of bitters would raise bp. In my case the bitters don't do this. The Swedish bitters are used as a blood pressure remedy, among many other things, historically. I'm sure you have read about that already.

Also, a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a " gulp " of water daily will

stabilize bloodpressure. Myself, I put it in orange juice. It makes it

go down easier.

You ARE brave! I did a master cleanse fast & got as far as a couple of hours short of 7 days purely because I could no longer stomach the cayenne!

If I needed it for BP or for my heart, I would take capsules now. I still like it in food though.

Dr Horowitz reckons that it will aid in very rapid recovery if put under the tongue of a heart attack victim. I'm sure they'd recover rapidly just to demand recompense from anyone who might do such a thing!

LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!!!!! You've got me laughing again. But yes, cayenne

pepper will stop a heart attack. Something else...... should you have

an accident and are bleeding profusely, take the cayenne and it will

stop the bleeding.

To relieve that stomach discomfort, drink something cold after you take

it, as much as you need. Keep in mind, it is not harming your stomach.

It just feels " hot. "

And I'm pretty much used to it now, even though its still hot. I no

longer look like a cat that had its tail plugged in a socket. My nose

just runs a bit.

Dr. Mike

Thanks for arginine info, but it sets off cold sore for me. If i ate nuts, which all have arginine, sure enough i develop cold sore with blisters. I now take lysine everyday just to stave it off.

But i will continue swedish bitters usign 1/4 tsp in a glass of water.

I take cayenne for a healthy heart and to stave off heart attacks and strokes and to keep my stomach "quiet". Didn't know it was good for hypertension too.

Thanks for the wonderful info.

I've been lurking on this subject and have a question. I just tried HCL

for the first time today. I took one 600 mg tablet. I'm not having any

burning or anything but I am burping. Of course, I probably would be

burping if I hadn't taken it as well. Could this mean I need more possibly?

Thanks.

Gerald,

When my furkid Cody was on chemo he was getting slippery elm for stomach upset, I would def. give it a try if I were you, what have you got to lose. When I did the acv I never stopped for two days but I wasn't using the bicarb like you.

Gerald,

Not sure if you mean me, Bonnie? I can tell you I was doing a tsp. of acv three times a day in just water is all. I had been on the prevacid/nexium for over ten years and had read about acv and decided to try it, so glad I did. I still suffer with acid reflux if I do too much coffee lets say, just have to watch it is all including some supplements including vitamins.

Not sure if this is a re-bound effect but today had to take 20mg of

Losec to stop the acid coming up my throat, it started last

night/evening, 5 days in this always seems to happen to me, the Apple

Cider Vinegar and Bicarb works but only for 5 days, in the website on

the ACV/Bicarb cure for acid reflux the guy TED says to do the ACV for

5 days and 2 days off and start again, I wrote to him and asked him

what the heck do I do on the 2 days off?? I stopped taking the HCl as

well and will start the whole process or cycle again after the 2 days

rest and maybe up my HCl dose and ACV dose as well.

Gerald

ps One lady says that Slippery Elm helped her.

And you didn't get any rebound effect on the 5th day with the ACV?

Sorry can you say how many tablespoons you were taking and how long you

were on meds for? Thanks

I haven't been following this thread so I don't know if it's been

mentioned yet, but one of my best results in the use of natural

remedies was when I used DGL for my acid reflux. I had been taking

all kinds of prescription and OTC meds and found myself several times

in hospital ERs doubled over in spasms caused by the severity of the

pain caused by the reflux. I read about DGL in one of those " Natural

Remedies Your Doctor Doesn't Want You To Know About " books and went

out and got it right away. I haven't taken an antacid or any other

med since. It has an immediate and long term healing effect by

apparently causing your GI system to secrete some kind of protective

coating. They're not unpleasant tablet with a licorice taste that you

have to chew well to mix with your saliva. I find the unsweetened

varieties seem to work best. My favorite brand is Enzymatic without

the fructose. Seems to work best for me.

I tried the Dyglyserized licorice root (wrong spelling) the solgar one,

the good thing about that is that it helps to creat or protect the

mucus lining as you say in the stomach but also Licorice can easily

bring your blood pressure NORTH wards, i.e. HIGH, but this version

doesn't so it's safer that way, for GERD I used to make the capsule

melt in my mouth and slide down my throat so it would have a healing

effect on the esophagus, maybe should try it again, what do you think

of the Solgar variety?

Seems I get more help and advice on this forum than I get on the GERD

forum, wow, thanks guys. Very helpful.

I have read (Dr.Jarvis book & Bragg) to take 2 teaspoons of ACV in 8 oz. of water w/a tsp of uncooked honey at each meal and sip throughout. Possibly take a little at bedtime. You don't need to add the honey.Nonie--------> > And you didn't get any rebound effect on the 5th day with the ACV? > Sorry can you say how many tablespoons you were taking and how long you > were on meds for? The " deglycyrrhizination " (whew! don't know if such a word exists)is

done to prevent the blood pressure problems, from what I read. I

think I got the Solgar once because I couldn't find the Enzymatic but

being in capsules it didn't help at all. Might be more valuable for

lower GI problems. The thorough mixing with saliva seems to be

important for the effectiveness of the dgl. I've tried other brands

of tablets as well, but none seem to work as well for me.

Ted on the ACV/bicarb website says something like, 2 tablespoons of

apple cider vinegar and an 1/4 teaspoon of bicarb soda twice or

three times a day.

When I did take the Solgar DGL Licorice capsules I let them melt in

my mouth anyway so they would help on the way down my throat.

Wonder how many mg of HCI one should take, cause I am a big guy -

6ft 100kg and medium to big size belly - each TMG capsule is 175mg

and been taking only two per day with the ACV/Bicarb, this evening

took 2 175mg capsules with a crumpet and Jam and ginger tea and the

lump in my throat is going, maybe I haven't been taking enough HCI,

tomorrow will try with a higher dose, not too high though - worried

I'll make a hole in my stomach.

Not sure if the HCI digests everything and helps the stomach empty

and so less food is in the stomach for a lesser period of time and

hence no reflux rather than the HCI tightening the LES - I heard

GABA may tighten the LES, is this true?

Bonnie,

Wow sounds great your recovery, may I ask if you were overweight and

lost it, maybe this may contribute to the recovery also, the 3 times

a day ACV @ 1 teaspoon, was that on an empty stomach just before

food or did you wait 3omins before eating anything and did you take

other suppements such as HCI or Licorice, Slippery Elm and what if

any Vitamins or amino did you take, thankyou Bonnie.

Gerald

ps yesterday when I went back onto the Losec I had no acid but felt

my throat tight like a lump in my thraot seeing as I think the Losec

does heal the LES and lets juices which will contain a tiny bit of

acid and other fermenting stuff which still damages over time the

esophagus, I understand now the idea that acid like ACV or HCI helps

the stomach to empty and therfore less food around to cause reflux

problems and may give a signal to the LES to tighten, am I right

guys? I would like to know if anyone knows, do specific aminos or

nutrients tighten or help to tighten the LES (Lower Esophageal

Sphincter), of course losing weight is a priority for me as well and

hopefully will not stretch my LES open due to a big gut/belly.

Weighed in at 99kg today so down to double figures.
