There are only certain areas of the world where the ocean the kelp is harvested from isn't polluted. You could end up with arsenic, mercury and other heavy metals and pollutants in your kelp if it's is coming from a bad source. You'll also want to avoid getting too much Iodine. I think there's an area along the coast of Japan that's be designated as clean enough for kelp growing. This is so much of a problem that there are international laws on the amount of certain pollutants contained in kelp, so do your research, in this case, the brand you're buying really is important.Pollution-free kelp is healthy, it has a lot of minerals in it, good stuff. I read a little about the product and the kelp is from Iceland, here is a little info.....I take one w/out calcium though. However I've read several articles like this one http://www.ryandrum.com/seaxpan1.html which reassure me about eating sea vegetables. I have sent them an email requesting info about heavy metals, so I'll let you know what their answer is re any testing done.
