Guest guest
Hello, I've had my n. oleander plant a month or so now, long enough to watch it grow. Am ready to prune and cook. While it's 3 feet tall with maybe 18 branches, only if I trimmed them all back to 6 inches would I have enough leaves for a stock pot/dutch oven full (1to 1.5 gallons). In addition, every branch always has dozens of flowers ... its quite lovely. I need to do this soon because the plant needs to adjust to the pruning before the weather changes. Indiana is not tropical except in the summer; it'll have to become a house plant in a couple of months with much less sun/water/heat. Should I prune 2-3 long branches at a time every few weeks, cutting them up to make several small batches of soup? OR do it all at once? OR half? or? Shall I cut the flowers off before putting the stems and leaves in the pot? Blessedly the plant and the seasons, not my health, is the urgency. Thanks much, Saralou
Guest guest
Oleander seems to snap back pretty quickly after pruning. However much you clip and make, simply go by the instructions of putting enough water in the pot to barely cover the cuttings and then boiling and condensing to the proper percentage, straining and boiling again, careful and plentiful filtering, etc. You can use the flowers as well as the leaves and smaller branches. A small batch goes a long way. oleander soup , RoseOtto <RoseOttoGroups wrote: > > Hello, > > I've had my n. oleander plant a month or so now, long enough to watch it > grow.
