Pepcid?

Tony,

The vet gave us shots to inject of the pepcid so no not my idea. Did not know pepcid has such adverse effects, horrible esp. since the liver is where they detected Cody's lymphoma first of all. I need to get his milk thistle back into him now, have held off long enough!

However, on the side effects, isn't this on the low end of the spectrum of pepcid? I have tried slippery elm for Cody but it stopped working for him esp. this last time around.

thanks,

Did your veterinarian happen to mention anything about the side

effects for pepcid? Or did you decide to use that on your own?

FDA Reported Pepcid Side Effects: liver disorder, rhabdomyolysis,

aspartate aminotransferase increased, alanine aminotransferase

increased, hepatic function abnormal, blood alkaline phosphatase

increased, blood lactate dehydrogenase increased, renal failure acute,

bradycardia, white blood cell count decreased, pyrexia.

My reaction is that pepcid is a drug. I don't like drugs. They are

not found in nature and are likely to not be naturally compatible to

those who take them. They have side effects, and the side effects may

well be more prevalent in ill humans or pets with suppressed immuno

systems. They usually treat only symptoms of illness instead of causes

and often do so unnaturally.

Just like the vile statin drugs unnaturally inhibit the body's natural

cholesterol production (and have a host of unwelcome side effects),

pepcid unnaturally inhibits the natural production of stomach acid -

and if there is not enough stomach acid, there will be incomplete

digestion. That means that not all the nutrients from the food may be

absorbed as well as they should be. It also means that any herbs,

supplements, etc. may not be as completely digested and introduced to

the blood stream.

Have you considered natural digestive aids? For example:

If it were me, I think I would look around for a holistic vet and get

his or her advice on supplements and diet (and if the vet is a good

one they will likely tell you raw meat).

Bonnie,

The pepcid is the least of your worries.... it simply cotes the stomach and protects it from overly acidic or irritating foods. The prednisone was used to increase Cody's appetite... although you could have achieved the same thing with acupuncture the pred will certainly make him want to eat more. Be sure to get OFF the pred very slowly.... but start as soon as possible, before serious side effects set in. Diabetes and pituitary disorders can be some of them. You can give Cody any of the oleander, IP6, and CS while you are giving pred. The pepcid protects the stomach from the pred as well. At least you can stop that at any time without side effects. Good luck... but please don't stop the oleander, IP6, and CS whatever you do.
