Guest guest
I'm finding that nerium oleander is available in hardier varieties and that they can be grown in horticultural zone 7. This means Virginia and along the coast even further north. I just was pointed out a hedge of oleander growing here in Virginia. They were doing really well and i couldn't see any sign of damage. There were reds and pinks. I understand that there is also a yellow hardy form isolated in North Carolina during a particular cold winter. My understanding is that there are reds, pinks, whites, and yellows as well as several variegated leaf forms of nerium oleander including double flower forms. It was pointed out that the plants are, comparatively speaking, not as dangerous as one would imagine. Other more common plants are toxic and we don't seemed to be concerned with them. Nonetheless, oleander should be handled with caution.
