Guest guest
I am studying to be an acupuncturist and work on my uncle for allergies as he is very chemically sensitive. I know that he responds well to the acupuncture but really do not know if acupressure would be helpful at all it might be worth a try. The points that I use are: LI20, St 2, UB2, Yin Tang, UB 7, LI 4 (which we use for everything LOL). My son was also given this patent formula for asthma which appears to accompany allergies sometimes: Chih Ke Pien (brand-Ma Hsing). This chinese herbal formula can be purchased at: www.winghopfung.com. Good luck to all. Shane PS: Homeopathic seems to respond well to allergies. I would suggest getting a simple book and reading up on it. You would have to determine first what you though the source might be and then begin to experiment until you got the right formula. I use homeopathic with my 4 yr old son all the time and we rarely go to the doctor. This is only a thougt. Dana Ullman has several simple books to understand on the market. Guest guest
This is a subject which I will be posting more on in the future and hope that others will also respond to. A lot of people suffer from allergies, especially in the spring, and especially at this time of year. Why are so many people so prone to allergies in the spring? Is is just a matter of plants beginning to bloom again after a dormancy period, or is there another factor besides the classic allergic reaction which involves IgE (immunoglobulin E) hooked up to mast cells which release histamine when they encounter an allergen? In TCM you learn to pay attention to weather conditions because weather conditions will influence people's health. These environmental influences are called Pernicious Evils. They are Wind, Summer Heat, Dampness, Dryness, Cold, and Fire. Pernicious Evils can be External (as in weather conditions) or they can be Internal. But for now let's deal with the External ones. Some of the classic effects of External Wind, Cold, and Dryness are sinus congestion and discharge, especially when Wind and Cold team up together. And what are the weather conditions in most areas of the country in the spring, especially around the beginning of March? Very, very windy and still sort of cool. In the fall the predominate weather condition tends to be dryness in many parts of the country. There are ways to increase one's resistence to External Pernicious Evils, and I'll be going into those more tomorrow. For the time being just let me say it involves increasing the body's Protective Qi. Allergies can manifest as the result of various TCM syndromes, and we'll be going into some of those more in detail later. I also will want to post on fennel seeds, one of the herbs which is used both in TCM and Western herbalism to treat allergies. Various people have various info on allergies, and I encourage them to post. I don't want to restrict the posts on allergies to just TCM help. A lot of people have allergies, and I'll like to see information from various healing schools on helping people bring their allergies under control. My allergies and sensitivities used to be very bad, but have improved greatly. I'll also be posting some on what helped me. Allergies are mostly treated as colds that the body has not been able to fight off (week spleen and Wei Qi) and that have " sunk in the body " and attacked deeper levels. The pattern where the cold attacks deeper levels of the body varies from person to person, as their body constitution and weaknesses are different, so treatment will be different. But all these patient's immune system (spleen, Wei Qi, lung) has to be strengthened to prevent further colds from intruding into the body. Be careful with children and herbs (and any medicine), especially over a distance! Dagmar ********************************************* Dagmar's free CHINESE MEDICINE NEWSLETTER! I tried most of them out via acupressure, and they definitely do help. >The points that I use are: LI20, St 2, UB2, Yin Tang, >UB 7, LI 4 (which we use for everything LOL). For the benefit of those new to points, these are Large Intestine 20, Stomach 2, Urinary Bladder 2, Urinary Bladder 7, and Large Intestine 4. I'm unfamiliar with the Yin Tang point. Most of these points are on the head and some of them also are recommended for colds and flu. They definitely open up your head. The Large Intestine 4 point gets used for a lot of things. It's on the hand, in the webbing between the thumb and index finger. It's used for constipation and to get the bowels moving. It's so effective that this point often is contraindicated in pregnant women because it also can induce labor. I've be giving directions for pressing it via acupressure. Why would a point that gets your bowels moving be used in treating allergies (and cold and flu and so many other things)? TCM believes that it's not enough just to encourage the body to start releasing toxins. They need to be gotten out of the body as quickly as possible, and one route is the intestines. Making sure bowel movements are up to par often is one of the considerations in treating Phlegm accumulations when they start to break up. And you get plenty of mucus with allergies, cold, and flu. There's also a saying in TCM that to get rid of Heat in the Lungs, purge the bowels. There's always a danger of Heat building up in the Lungs in cases of colds, flus, and allergies. (This doesn't mean that you're to automatically use a strong laxative every time you get a cold. It's a technique that is used when Heat actually is building up to a damaging level and needs to be released from the lungs. I'm talking about strong laxatives here and especially purgatives. It's generally ok to use the LI 4 point to help keep yourself regular - unless you're pregnant, and then it could cause problems.) But there's another reason recognized by Western medicine why making sure the bowels are operating smoothly is a good idea in a case of allergies. Histamine is the substance released by the mast cells that is responsible for the allergic reactions - the inflammation, sneezing, watery eyes, itching, etc. When a person's digestion is messed up and proteins are not getting digested completely, one of the amino acids, histidine, will change into histamine. Histamine is histamine, regardless of if it's released by a mast cell or is the product of incomplete digestion. I want to post more about these points later. Thanks for a lot of good info. Guest guest
Hi All, I just wanted to report on some great results my Son is getting with a product from Baselinenutritionals.com (a site recommended by the Oleander group)on his allergies. The product is pHi-Zymes, I originally bought it because the information I read on a flyer they sent me talked about atheletes recovering faster and some of the other benefits were allergy releif and other good stuff. My son has suffered quietly all of his life with allegies(he is allergic to cats, dogs, cedar, dust, etc.), but now that he is playing division 1 football we had to get him to an allergist because having to perform at that level and feeling the way he did without medication was really hampering his abilities and breathing. However the medicine helped somewhat, but also made him sleepy, etc. Well he started taking the pHi-Zymes about 2 months ago and for the first time in his life (21yrs) he is allergy free and normal like he should be and feels great. Another plus is that he went to the dentist for a check up and the dentist REPEATEDLY said how great his gums & teeth looked (this was one of the claims on the pHi-Zymes flyer as well). Just wanted to share something that is really working for us! GO IRISH!! And last BUT NOT LEAST, Oleander is really helping my 80 year old stepfather battle his cancer while allowing him to have GREAT quality of life! Will keep you posted when we get more Medical results, but so far so good and he looks and feels great! GO OLEANDER!!! Blessings to All, Tracy
