Guest guest
Hi folks - I have been looking forward to sending this message out - especially to those who are looking for success stories and those who are interested in making their own extract. Today I added a new member to the group: Catrina Hoelke. Catrina is one of the very first people to make " oleander soup " and has probably made more of it than anyone in the United States. Such is the regards for Catrina's expertise that doctors and clinics visit her for demonstrations and instructions on how to make the oleander extract. I am sure that she has quite a few success stories over the past 5 years or so to pass along - including her own. Feel free to welcome Catrina ( " Cat " ) to the group - however, it may be a few days before she has time to drop by. In the meantime, you can all take a look at her and her wonderful business here in the San Antonio/Austin Hill Country of Texas area (it's a perfect fit and a wonderful place to visit): http://catrinasattheranch.com/ BTW - Catrina is the source of the oleander I take. Guest guest
Hey there, Mary! I am a VERY good student indeed! I am amazed at what I learn about holistic medicine every day! I think that if we listen closely , some little guy that has been eating some weed in his back yard for years , will come up with the darn fountain of youth! Until then, I will keep cooking, and teaching, and giving oleander tea, or ,as I call it “Bug Juice”(cause it kills the bugs that ail ya!)to everyone that will listen and try it. Life is good. I am almost 56 years old with a 10 year old to keep up with , and I work 60 hrs. a week. And, I RARELY even catch as much as a cold. I have many stories to share, particularly the one about my Mom. Guest guest
Renee, I have not got up the courage to make any yet, I bought some from Marc, but I do want to try it. Did you find it hard to make, how did you measure how much oleander to put in? I know that you cover it with water, but did not know if it is loosely put in or packed in. Does it cook down to a thick soup or is it very liquid still? Have you every tried the caps that Marc sells on OPC? I live on my disability so money is very very tight, and I do have oleander trees in my back yard, so I should be able to do this. Were you nervous about doing it wrong? Thanks for all your infor. Guest guest
Hi Violet. Yes, I was very nervous. Lol Because it is so important I wanted to do it right. I had a bit of a leg up because I'm an herbalist and use to doing "things" with plants, so that helped. I followed the directions as closely as I could. It said cut a grocery bag of young branches, including leaves and flowers, so that's what I did. I had a normal, brown grocery bag from the store. I took pruning shears, and a glove on the hand that would be touching the branches, and I snipped short pieces, perhaps only about 2 foot long. Many of the branches are actually long thin shoots on the bush, so I would cut a long shoot and then cut that into smaller 12 inch to 16 inch pieces so they would fit in the bag. When the bag seemed full (meaning that I would have to start shoving branches down and getting resistance) I stopped cutting. When I got home I brought out my big canning pot and proceeded to cut the branches short enough to put into the pot. Once I had the grocery bag all cut up and in the pot, I covered with tap water, rinsed the branches and dumped that water, then filled with distilled water and started the boiling process. I think I put in about 2 gallons to cover the branches by an inch or so of water. I had found the strainers in the store here and they basically stacked one on top of the other, so it was easy to strain through all 4 layers of coffee filters. I was nervous enough that though it said to strain twice, I strained 3 times. :-) I did write and ask the list because my soup, though brown, was thin and not "soupy" at all. I was expecting it to be a bit thicker at least, but I was assured that it was ok to be thin. I have nothing to compare it with, and no one here is actually sick, so there's no real way for me to know if mine is as strong as anyone else's, but because I followed the instructions I feel that I did it right. Nerve wracking to be sure, but take the plunge and do it. :-) You'll do fine. Samala, Renee ---- Did you find it hard to make, how did you measure how much oleander to put in? Guest guest
Violet i'm not Renne, but is not very dificult to make the soup, try a small batch first since you have the oleander in you garden,100 grams oleander 1 litre of water, boil for 3 1/2 hours, rest for 2 hours, take out the leaves, cook for onother 3 1/2 hours, rest until cool, strain with two lairs of coffee filters or cloth cotton material- mix with vodka or apple cider fifty fifty, like i glass vodka or cider vinegar- 1 glass soup, label the bottle and keep in the fridge. Dose start with 1 teaspoon 3 times daily, go up to 1 tablespoon 3 times a day. And yes i was very nervous and scared the first time i took it, not because i thought i did it wrong but the name oleander was scary, but no problems there i been taking oleander for 3 years now and i feel fine as i'm sure other will tell you the same thing good luck and hugs from me Mary - violet1946 oleander soup Monday, June 09, 2008 9:55 AM Re: The Oleandersoup Group welcomes oleander (soup) expert Catrina Hoelke Renee, I have not got up the courage to make any yet, I boughtsome from Marc, but I do want to try it. Did you find it hardto make, how did you measure how much oleander to put in? I know that you cover it with water, but did not know if it is loosely put in or packed in. Does it cook down to a thick soupor is it very liquid still? Have you every tried the caps that Marc sells on OPC? I live on my disability so money is very verytight, and I do have oleander trees in my back yard, so I should be able to do this. I am a VERY good student indeed! I am amazed at what I learn about holistic medicine every day! I think that if we listen closely , some little guy that has been eating some weed in his back yard for years , will come up with the darn fountain of youth! Until then, I will keep cooking, and teaching, and giving oleander tea, or ,as I call it Bug Juice(cause it kills the bugs that ail ya!)to everyone that will listen and try it. Life is good. I am almost 56 years old with a 10 year old to keep up with , and I work 60 hrs. a week. And, I RARELY even catch as much as a cold. I have many stories to share, particularly the one about my Mom. Gotta go for now!
