Guest guest
Hi I am new to the group and I was wondering does any one have any recipes to make soap in smaller amounts? It's just my husband and I so we don't need a whole lot at one time, not to mention it will be my first time making it! I am looking to make bar soap, shampoo even dish soap and laundry soap as well as all natural products for cleaning floors and such. Any help would be greatly appreciated. P.S. we also have a couple milk goats so goat milk soap recipes would be neat too!! Thanks for your time!!
Guest guest
If you are brand new to soap making the best place I can recommend that you visit is Kathy Miller's website. All kinds of info on soap making. Goat's Milk soap is nice to make but can be tricky ... wouldn't try it the first time around. The addition of milk causes soap to get very hot and requires special treatment. A nice basic soap the first time around would be best so that you can get used to the mixing of lye and the saponification process, bringing the oil/lye mixture to trace. As far as recipes go Kathy has a bunch on her website. After a few batches you can make your own recipes using a Lye Calculator to determine how much to add based on the fats used. I make only Natural Soap from basic ingredients and pure Essential Oils, it is not difficult as long as you are organized. Don't rush into anything. Lots or research, get the necessary equipment and always be careful - lye is caustic and must be given respect. http://www.millersoap.com/ Pat the Soap Maker http://www.millersoap.com/ - springrain280 Thursday, April 09, 2009 2:02 PM making soaps and natural cleaners Hi I am new to the group and I was wondering does any one have any recipes to make soap in smaller amounts? Guest guest
The link under my name is a book that tells how to make all the stuff that you have mentioned. With recipes. The base oils for soap are palm; lard; tallow. Cleansing oils are: coconut, babassu and palm kernel Castor is so important to soap making as it aids in moisturizing, and it adds lather. You can make soap from just lard, water and lye but it doesn't have a lot of cleansing. Lard 11 oz water 3.7 oz lye 1.5 oz Hardness 42 Cleansing 1 Conditioning 52 Bubbly 1 Creamy 41 iodine 57 INS 139 A good recipe is, and this amount will make 1 pound of soap, 11 oz of oils plus water plus lye = one pound of soap. Palm 77% or 8.5 oz (Spectrum makes a shortening that is 100% palm) coconut oil 15% or 1.7 oz (this you can get at Wal-Mart) castor oil 8% or 0.9 oz (you can get this at and drug store) water 3.7 oz sodium hydroxide (lye) 1.5 oz (optional) fragrance 0.5 oz Hardness 50 Cleansing 11 Conditioning 47 Bubbly lather 18 Creamy lather 47 Iodine 49 INS 158 Zo www.soapandotherobsessions.com making soaps and natural cleaners > Hi I am new to the group and I was wondering does any one have any recipes > to make soap in smaller amounts?
