Guest guest
I am looking for a way to get rid of the creepy crawlies in a basement bedroom in our house. Is there a natural remedy for these? What about an essential oil blend? I have small children so I'd prefer to use something natural and not toxic. Thanks for your help ~Diane mommysdaydream
Guest guest
You can try sprinkling borax. A flour sifter works wonderfully for sprinkling borax and breaking up the clumps that are in every box. Heavy sprinkle, leave for 24 hours, pay special attention to baseboards and window sills. Vacuum up, throw out the bag (outside so any hangers on fall out outside) and then a slightly lighter sprinkle and repeat weekly for about a month, then once monthly. This works amazingly well for extreme and milder flea infestations in a regular house as well. You can try DE (diatomaceous earth) (wear a damp mask or cloth over your mouth and nose). Use it the same as above for borax. You can " poof " this onto pets as well, using an old mustard or ketchup plastic bottle, just avoid the face so they don't breathe it. DE can also be mixed with pet food once a month, about 1/4 tsp in wet food, to kill and expel worms (cheaper than a vet and a solution with less chemical impact on their little bodies). Plus it actually works, not like the pharma answers which are basically low grade poisons... You can try a mixture of dish soap and neem oil. 1 tsp of neem to a pint of water in a spray bottle, and 5-10 drops of dish soap to help emulsify the oil into the water. Spray all surfaces. Pay special attention to baseboards, window sills and anywhere furniture touches the floor. Neem is an excellent repellent for most critters. Works wonderfully in the garden. Spray the animals (not in the face please).... Works well in lotions to repel mosquitos and fleas and chiggers... Drawback: Used too heavily, or straight out of the bottle, it smells like garlic... A LOT of garlic, LOL. Hope this helps Blessings Sarah-Ann
