A Healthy

Thistle that Gets Rid of Excess Water

by Victoria

The artichoke has been known for ages as having a

diuretic effect because it stimulates bile and urine.

A study by a Japanese researcher in 1940 found that the

artichoke lowered cholesterol a bit and acted like a diuretic. Swiss

investigators also found that the cholesterol in humans dropped after eating an

artichoke.

Other studies done on the artichoke by US and Russian

scientists also noted a drop in blood cholesterol as well as the artichoke

having anti inflammatory activity in dogs. French scientists were very

successful in using artichoke extract for treating kidney and liver aliments

and have taken out a patent on it.

Next time you feel bloated, swollen, or find that you

need to lower your cholesterol, eat an artichoke or two!

Artichoke Mask

Mash 2 well cooked artichoke hearts or 2 canned artichoke

hearts (in water not oil) in a bowl and add 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon of

extra virgin olive oil and 1 teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar. Mix well

until you have a smooth paste. Apply the mask to your face, neck and upper

chest. Leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse off with tepid water. Pat dry with

a soft fluffy towel.
