Guest guest
How to Make Bath Teas Bath teas or bath sachets are small bags or packages filled with a combination of herbs and flowers fragranced with essential oils or fragrance oils. Bath sachets are containers used to infuse herbs, fragrances and other ingredients into bath water. In creating a great bath tea blend here are some points to keep in mind. Bath teas may contain visually appealing flowers, but more importantly, and especially if the flowers and herb are hidden in the bag, ingredients should be fragrant. So, herbs should be dried and fragrant smelling, spices should be free from molds and essentail oils should be the kind that has staying power. Bath sachets can be made from a wide assortment of materials, such as organza, gauze, or any material with an open weave. Ingredients used in bath sachets are typically the same ingredients used in bath salts or fizzy type bath mixes. Although these types of ingredients are standard ones found in most bath teas, there really is no limit to the kinds of ingredients used. Ingredients used should be skin safe and essential oils used should not be sensitizing to the skin. Main ingredients form the bulk of the mixture. Use a couple cups of these first ingredients, then add tablespoons of the optional ingredients and add essential oils or fragrances. Essential oils may be combined with a fixative before adding to the herbal/floral mixture. Then package into paper tea bags, cotton tea bags, organza sachets or any bag that can be sealed or closed with a drawstring or ribbon. • Herbs – calendula, chamomile, lemongrass, ginger root, lavender, peppermint, plantain, rosemary, spearmint, sage, thyme, yarrow • Flowers – rose, hibiscus, passion flower • Fruit – orange peel, lemon/lime peel, dried rose hips • Essential oils • Sea salts • 2 parts Baking soda + 1 part Citric acid = Fizz • Lanthanol powder (creates bubbles) • Milk powder • Orris root - essential oil scent fixative (mix 1 tablespoon with essential oil then add to tea mixture) Bath Bliss 4 drops lavender 3 drops rose or rose geranium 2 drops orange 1 drop ylang ylang 1 drop patchouli Rosewood 6 drops Rose absolute or fragrance oil 3 drops Sandalwood 2 drops Patchouli 1 drop Oakmoss Florida Blend 6 drops Bergamot (bergaptene free) 4 drops Lavender, 2 drops Clovebud Revitalizing Blend 4 drops Rosemary 3 drops Lemon 2 drops Eucalyptus 2 drops Peppermint Cold Blend 4 drops Eucalyptus 2 drops peppermint 2 drops lavender ½ drop patchouli Where to buy ingredients Mountain Rose Herbs sells all the ingredients needed to create bath teas including cotton tea bags, herbs and essential oils.
