Guest guest
Hair Treatments for Oily & Dandruff ©Wystira Moonsinger There are several things that cause oily, unhealthy hair. By washing your hair the wrong way with commercial, drying shampoos, washing improperly and not providing stimulation to your scalp, and not properly removing the oil and dead skin buildup; then there's not totally rinsing your hair completely and then finally not brushing your hair out compeletly to promote stimulation and circulation to your scalp, which helps to properly distribute your hair's natural oils to help make it shiny and healthy looking. These are only some of the factors that lead to poor health and poor condition of your hair. By using styling products, having a lot of stress in your life and other similar factors leads to excess oil production, which can cause dandruff, flaky scalp, clogged hair follicles and sometimes even an unpleasant scalp odor. To help bring your scalp's proper oil production and to give your hair a healthy, natural shine, you can try one of the hair treatments listed at the bottom of this article. Proper application of hair treatments: The proper way to apply hair treatments is to apply it to your dry, unwashed hairand scalp. Yes, that's right...apply it to dry, unwashed hair. Use your fingers and run them through your hair to help distribute the product properly, all the way to the ends of your hair. Then, wrap your head in plastic wrap and then cover your head with a towel and leave on for at least 30 minutes (for a vinegar treatment) and up to 1 hour for an egg treatment. Afterwards, wash your hair in cool water with a natural shampoo, which is so much less harsh to your hair than most commercial products on the market. Rinse well, then towel dry and then use a wide-toothed comb to get the tangles out. If you use a conditioner, make sure its a " natural' conditioner to help your hair and scalp. Some oils you can use on your hair, safely: Grapesee oil: By using this pale-yellow oil you are providing your hair with trace mineral and other nutrients as well as conditioning your hair naturally. Cedarwood essential oil: This fantastic essential oil you are promoting an increase in the scalp's blood circulation and cleaning out clogged hair follicles. Cedarwood is great to heal dandruff and helps those with thinning hair. Peppermint essential oil: This lovely oil provides stimulation to your scalp and is also cooling. This oil is an astringent that will help treat oily scalp, believe it or not. Burdock root soothes and adds shine to your hair: Tanic acid in this root is very soothing to an oily and irritated sclap. It's a mild astringent the smooes the cuticle and removes oil from your hair while adding a healthy shine. Rose petals: Rose petals help tone and tighten your scalp and have a gentle astringent action providing healthy hair. Try not to cover your hair all of the time. Your hair and scalp need to " breath " to stay healthy and shiney. (Also remember to try and keep oily hair off your face to help prevent acne breakouts) Granny's Dandruff Treatment © Wystira's Family Herbal BOS 1 c. chamomile flowers, dried 1 c. burdock root, dried and chopped 1 c. rose petals, dried 2 qt. raw apple-cider vinegar Place the dried herbs in a sterile, tall, wide-mouthed canning jar with a screw-top and cover them totally with the vinegar. The herbs will swell and absorb the vinegar so keep adding vinegar till the herbs are " swimming " in the liquid. Before closing the jar, lay a piece of plastic wrap over the mouth of jar to prevent rust from forming. (Granny used to use a thin cotton towel, but I use plastic wrap) Screw the lid on tightly and let the " brew " steep for 2-3 weeks in a sunny window in your home. After steeping, pour the vinegar through a fine sieve and wring out the herbs as much as you can. Filter the vinegar thorough a piece of gauze and then pour into a decorative bottle. To use: Massage 2-4 T. of the vinegar brew diluted with an equal amount of water into your scalp, cover your hair with plastic warp, then wait about 30 minutes. (DO NOT USE THIS TREATMENT MORE THAN 3 TIMES PER WEEK, WHICH WILL CAUSE DRY ENDS ON YOUR HAIR) Granny's Oily Hair Treatment © Wystira's Family Herbal BOS 2 egg yolks 4 T. fresh lemon juice 4 t. grapeseed oil 5 drops cedarwood e.o. 5 drops peppermint e.o. Let the egg yolks get to room temperature adn then mix them with the lemon juice. Using a whisk, add the grapeseed oil, drop by drop into the yolk mix till it reaches a creamy texture. Just before using, add the essential oils and massage this " brew " into your scalp for five minutes covering your entire scalp completely. Leave this on for 1 hour and then shampoo out, using cool water. (Granny always used rain water, but you can use tap water if you want. I like to use bottled water because there are no impurities in this and leaves your hair shiney and silky and takes care of dry scalp.)
