During the plague of Marseilles in 1726, four thieves who were arrested for robbing corpses credited their immunity to the disease to wearing masks soaked in vinegar, garlic and other herbs. This later became known as " Four thieves' vinegar " . In the early 19th century, some garlic eating French priests who were working in the Kondon slums at the height of an infectious fever suffered no adverse health effects, unlike their Anglican non-garlic eating brethren. The natural antiseptic properties of garlic have always been employed for dressing wounds. During World War I, for example, moss soaked in garlic juice was used as a dressing to prevent wounds from turning septic. *Mix a finely chopped clove of garlic with 1 tsp. grated apple.
