Hello fellow group members

I have been working with M & P soap making and I have been adding herbs

like Lavender, Caduella, Rose Buds and a few others to my soaps.

I am looking for an list of herbs that can be used with soap making.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thankyou In Advanced

Deborah

If you like doing M & P soap, pick up a copy of Marie Browning's "300 Handcrafted Soaps". It's a pretty good for getting ideas. There is a page in there devoted to additives. There are really too many to list, but aside from lavender, calendula and rose buds, you can try rosemary, chamomile, peppermint leaves, patchouli....it just goes on and on. Just make sure you use only 1 tsp or so per pound of soap, and that you crush or grind the botanicals first. Otherwise your soap will have rough places that can scratch, which isn't pleasant. Other additives that I like for exfoliating bars are fine grain sea salt, cornmeal, pumice, ground coffee and oats. Not all at once of course! Additives really give M & P so much personality, and if you start with a good quality natural soap base from a reputable supplier (NOT that craft store garbage-which says natural but is loaded with SLS and propylene glycol among other things), you can produce a really awesome product!

I do lots of cold process soap, but I love m & p because it's so easy to "play". :-)
