In doing so, we also present ourselves with something else just as important: A time to purge ourselves of that which is no longer useful and an opportunity to make room to receive all the gifts from the returning light. Purging Ritual metal cauldron charcoal lighter fluid matches or a cigarette lighter scraps of paper and writing tools* Gather around the cauldron ( the Transformative Void of the Mother ) and talk about the aspects of darkness and all that they signify. Then think about the dead weight in your life – the useless things that yo wish to get rid of – any negative aspects that you wish to transform into something positive. During this process, remember that banished aspects are often replaced with their exact opposites, so it's a good idea to consider whether you're ready to admit those into your life. Once you've decide what needs to go, write the objectives on a scrap of paper and place them in the cauldron with purpose and concentration. Know that by releasing them into the cauldron, you are pulling them out of your own darkness to make way for the gifts of light. Sprinkle the papers liberally with lighter fluid while concentrating on the transformative qualities of the cauldron. Light the fire knowing that all that is released into darkness is transformed by light. Let the papers burn to ash, then release them on the wind. *The type of paper and colour ink used can be highly significant.
