Guest guest
Hi Christina, My advice on cranberry juice is that you only drink the unsweetened juice. The bacteria in your body feeds on the sugar and may prolong your uti. You should drink as much as you can stand or until you feel relief and don't forget about drinking water as well. Another natural remedy that I have found to work wonders is organic apple cider vinegar added to your bath. It helps restore the ph balance in the " area " . Whenever I feel a bladder infection coming on I immediately pour about a cup of vinegar into a warm bath and soak in it. Make sure that you flush the area well. It works for me! Also, if you can't stand to drink the unsweetened cranberry juice (it is pretty harsh) there are concentrated cranberry juice capsules that you can buy at the health food store. Good luck! Guest guest
thanks for the advice Amber I haven't been able to find the unsweetened juice yet but then, I haven't had time to hit the health food store either. In the meantime, I am drinking the sweetened and it is giving some relief but also drinking lots of water. I personally can't stand the smell of most vinegars (especially apple cider vinegar - long story of my dad trying to make home made hard cider when I was a kid and having it turn and the whole house smelling of it) but I've heard that baking soda in a sitz bath will do the same type of thing. I'm going to try that tonight after my children are in bed - it's pretty hard to get even a short bath in when you have two active youngsters. I drank two bottles of the " lite " juice as I couldn't handle the other.......a day.........plus I found the cranberry pills in the local GNC store and take one a day even after the UTI was over. Hope you feel better soon ~ Stormy
Guest guest
hi christina, i also do the cranberry juice. stormy was right about alot of water also. i always sugest 1 bottle a day [at least] for three days. i never heard of over doing it because its a cleanser. but i eat yogurt [one big tub or three small tubs a day] at the same time because at first onset i have a hard time telling if it is a UTI or bladder infection. so i do both just in case. Guest guest
thanks to everyone who responded to my question about the cranberry juice. I saw my doctor about another matter yesterday and I asked her about the UTI. They did some quick testing and it came up negative, but they are doing a culture just to be sure. The symptoms I am having apparently are most likely a result of a worsening hernia situation that I have going on that I will be having surgery for soon. Because the hernia is now pressing on the bladder area, it isn't allowing everything to "drain" properly and that is causing iritation. She recomended some medication that will numb things but I turned it down, simply because I saw the ingredient list and it was far too long for my taste. Hopefully my surgery will be before the end of the year so I'll have relief soon. again, thanks to everyone - this list is wonderful!
