These Vanilla Beans are long, dark, and pliable, fresh crop from the Madagascar Vanilla plantations. This is the same source I have used since 1998 when I ran my spice business, and they are top quality. These can be used for making vanilla extract, Kaluha liquer, you can grind them up and add them to sugar scrubs, or you can just use them for your holiday baking! One customer puts one in a sock and pops it in her clothes dryer to create wonderfully vanilla scented laundry! I put one in my Tupperware canister of sugar, and have Vanilla Sugar year round. You can add a piece of vanilla bean to your coffee grinder and have vanilla Coffee. To get the MOST 'caviar' from your vanilla bean, carefully slice it end to end with a sharp knife. Gently scrape the mealy/tiny seeds of 'caviar' from the inside of the bean. Add this to your recipe instead of Vanilla extract. DO NOT discard those scrapped bean casings! Use them in your lingerie drawer as sachet, grind them up with coffee beans, add them to sugar canisters! You can dry them and grind them, adding them to sugar scrubs. The food industry uses these ground vanilla leftovers for Vanilla Ice Cream. That is what those TINY little dark brown flecks are in your Vanilla ice cream. STORAGE: Your vanilla beans will keep fresh for a full year or more if you store them in a airtight glass jar in a dark cupboard. If they get too dry for easy baking use, just add a teaspoon of water to the jar and return the jar to the cupboard. NEVER FREEZE OR REFRIGERATE VANILLA BEANS, as it destroys their flavor. Vanilla beans can be easily stored up to a year by putting them in an empty Mason jar, screwing the lid tight, and placing in a dark cupboard. ABOUT BOURBON VANILLA Bourbon Vanilla grown in Madagascar is considered some of the very very best Vanilla beans in the world, with more pronounced 'vanilla' flavor than Tahitian vanilla. Madagascar vanilla plantations are finally recovering from decimating hurricanes from a few years ago, and the new crops are spectacular! Grade A, dark, large, and pliable! Planifolia or Bourbon vanilla beans come from the fruit of an orchid variety called Vanilla planifolia. This variety is rich in the natural organic compound called vanillin, which, along with more than a hundred other organic compounds, contributes to its unique flavor profile. Bourbon beans have a creamy, sweet, smooth and mellow flavor with a long finish but with a subdued nose. Therefore, Bourbon is preferred by makers of ice cream and desserts and applications requiring a classic lingering vanilla accent. Kaluha w/ Vanilla Beans 6 cups sugar 6 cups water 18 tsp instant coffee 1/2 gallon vodka 9 SPLIT Vanilla beans Mix sugar, water, coffee together and bring to slow boil. Turn heat down and simmer 1 hour. Remove heat, cover liquid with plastic wrap. Let sit for 12 hours, then remove wrap (it will pick up film from the top). Add vodka stir well. Bottle in three quart dark bottles, putting 3 split vanilla beans in each. Notes:, Yield 3 quarts. Drinkable after 2 weeks. You can reduce this in half or by thirds. Vanilla EXTRACT 1 pint Vodka 3 -6 beans, depending on how STRONG you like it. Split beans down the entire length so the vodka can get in and extract flavor. Put the vanilla beans in the pint of vodka, pity... you might have to actually swig a few sips of that pint to make them all fit too, lol! Recap, and shake up every day or so for 8 weeks... It is often ready to use at 8 weeks, but 12 is even better! I will include a few other nice vanilla recipes with orders also! If you have any problems, you can email or call me! 757-595-3739 Kelly Bloom bloomkj @msn.com
