Guest guest
Since no one has mentioned it yet, I'll add Virgin Coconut Oil to the list of fabulous things to take for depression, hormone fluctuations, etc. 3 Tbsps of VCO a day got me out of post-partum depression within a month (my baby was 5 months old and I'd been struggling with PPD since shortly after she was born). It's properties and good fats help support the thyroid, adrenals, etc. which help in proper hormone balance... which helps balance out depression. Guest guest
You know I've been hearing a lot about VCO from a mom's board I participate in. I hadn't heard about for depression, but for general health..hmmm I definitely would be willing to try that.:-) I've also been reading about eating young coconuts, but with the nearest health food store being over an hour from me, that's not something I'll see anytime soon, lol. But I can try to find it on line. Thank you:-) Karen :-) Jan Gonzalez [jgonz]Wednesday, May 12, 2004 7:33 PMherbal remedies Subject: Re: Herbal Remedies - herbs for depression Since no one has mentioned it yet, I'll add Virgin Coconut Oil to the list of fabulous things to take for depression, hormone fluctuations, etc. 3 Tbsps of VCO a day got me out of post-partum depression within a month (my baby was 5 months old and I'd been struggling with PPD since shortly after she was born). Guest guest
There are actually several places that sell virgin coconut oil. I get mine from Tropical Traditions, but there is also Wilderness Family something, and another brand from India. Each brand has it's own little flavor differences, but the 3 I've tried have all worked the same. :-) Wherever you end up getting it from make SURE it's Virgin Coconut Oil... handpressed, no chemical processing, etc. Jan SAHM of 8, doula, breastfeeding advocate
Guest guest
Hi Jan, If one of the other mods hasn't responded to you on this, we do have a "resources" section in the files and I can add this. Just send the links to me. Guest guest
There is no one magic herb to cure depression, but there are many things you can do to cure this problem. 1. Eat a raw live food diet 2. Exercise - read http://www.mercola.com/2005/nov/22/the_ultimate_drug_for_treating_depression.htm 3. Get plenty of sleep - look in the file section for a herbal formula for sleep if needed 4. Avoid negative people 5. Eliminate alcohol, nicotine, caffeine 6. There are a lot of vitamins/minerals/amino acids, herbs, etc. that might help you, but it requires some research. The things that has helped me are fish oil (cod liver oil during winter months); magnesium; lot of sunshine (if not possible, consider vitamin D), a good whole food multi-vitamin, B vitamins, total cleanses (such as colon cleanse, liver cleanse, kidney/blood). 7. In my opinion, if you are suffering from depression, this means you need and must make some life style changes. This is the only way you can cure depression. Guest guest
You could try Lobelia, or Nerve Sedative - see the files for the recipes. Also take 100mg Vit B1 + a good calcium/magnesium supplement + 1000mg Vit C in the evening about half an hour before bedtime. The above are temporary measures; you really need to find the CAUSE of the depression, most likely a toxic relationship/person in your environment. Find out WHO and work out whether you can/want to handle it or disconnect from that person. love Lisa - chwillia herbal remedies Tuesday, November 29, 2005 9:46 AM Herbal Remedies - Herbs for Depression Greetings AllI am just starting on learning about herbs and herbal remedies. Can anyone suggest some herbs I could use to treat depression in an adult? Guest guest
Well, always seek help for depression, it's a very serious problem. But to calm down here's my suggestions. Alright, here's what I got. Ginseng, " It is gernerally agreed that ginseng is a powerful antidote to stress....It acts on the pituritary and adrenal glands and stimulates the nervous system to decrease fatigue. .....provides strong base for its invigorating values. It is especially useful to fight exhaustion and drpression that stem from nervous disorders. It is also generally agreed that 6 months regular use is needed to see these results, but many herbablists don't recommend taking it for more than a month. Avoid ginseng if you have inflammatory conditions, bronchitis, high blood pressure, or if you take stimulants. " Lavender, " Calming lavender tea is particularly attuned to the brain to releive stress, headaches, anxiety, depression.....it stedies your nerves and invigorates you. " Lemon Balm is an antidepressant and tonic for your nervous system. Milk Thistle, " If you suffer from depression...one organic cause is liver deficiency. Melancholy is often a condition of the liver that can be improved with milk thistle tea. Rose Hips is another popular antidepressant, and they recmmend oat straw to calm down. St. Johns Wort is GREAT for nerves and is a basic cure all for nervous disorders, and is a fine antidepressant. Vervain is also recommended for nerves and to help you sleep. But for a deep sleep velarian root will knock you out immedeatly, but use lightly. Velarian can cause hallucinations in 5% of it's users, AVOID Vervain if you have bronchial conditions or asthma. Use both moderatly. pepperment iced tea is invigorating! That's teas, now here's aromatherapy.. " Bergamot oil is soothign to frazzled nerves and stressed bodies..do not apply to skin. " Also listed, Basil, Lemon Balm, Clary sage, Jasmine, and ylang-ylang. Lavender and chamomile also produce calming effects. Pepperment invigorates and is a local pain releiver if a warm tea bag is place on a place that hurts, even for headaches,(I've tried, it's great!)
