Guest guest
Favorite Cold Remedies How do you care for yourself when you catch a common cold virus? Whilethere may be no cure for the common cold, I think my favorite herbalremedies help my family to feel better sooner and have fewercomplications. Because I know what I like to use, I make sure to alwayshave these remedies on hand. You never know when you will need them andthey really need to be used at the first signs of a cold to be mosteffective. Some of my favorite remedies are Elder Berry Syrup,Eucalyptus Chest Rub, and Usnea Extract. Elder Berries (Sambucus nigra) contains antiviral properties that helpyou fight off cold and flu symptoms. Elder Berry Syrup is a tasty remedythat is easy to get kids to take and adults too. Recommended dose is 1-3teaspoons, 2 - 3 times per day. See our featured recipe below if youwould like a recipe to make your own Elder Berry Syrup. Eucalyptus Chest Rub relies on the effect of eucalyptus on therespiratory system, helping to open the bronchial passages and sinusesfor easier breathing. Because what is applied to the skin can beabsorbed into the bloodstream, the anti-microbial properties ofeucalyptus can also facilitate healing. I often add other medicinalherbal or essential oils as needed such as thyme or stillingia if theirhealing properties are appropriate for the symptoms. Our familyhas been using usnea for the past 5 years and it has become my favoriteherb for sore throats and acute infections. According to ChristopherHobbs in his booklet "Usnea: The Herbal Antibiotic", Usnea is useful fortreating fungal infections, acute bacterial infections, colds, flu, bronchitis, sinus, urinary infections and more. Recommended dosage is30-40 drops 3-5 times per day until symptoms improve. Of course, there are hundreds of cold remedies and everyone has theirfavorites. What is your favorite remedy?
