Guest guest
Varicose Veins Description: Varicose veins – abnormally enlarged, bulging, often bluish and lumpy-looking veins – occur when circulation is impaired and blood accumulates in the veins, stretching them. These prominent veins are often accompanied by dull, nagging aches and pains. Swelling, leg sores, itching, leg cramps, and a feeling of heaviness in the legs are characteristic of varicose veins. They are common in people who sit or stand in one position for prolonged periods of time, people who habitually sit with their legs crossed, and those who lack proper regular exercise. Excess weight, heavy lifting, and pregnancy put increased pressure on the legs, increasing the likelihood of developing varicose veins. Constipation, phlebitis, heart failure, liver disease, and abdominal tumors can also play a role in the formation of varicose veins. A deficiency of vitamin C and bioflavonoids can weaken the collagen structure in the vein walls, which can lead to varicose veins. Most cases of varicose veins do not pose a serious problem and can be managed with simple home measures. In some cases, however, if varicose veins are not treated properly, complications such as bleeding under the skin, deep-vein blood clots, an eczema-like condition near the affected veins, or ulcerated spots near the ankles may occur.; Remedies: Gotu Kola (centella asiatica)The herb gotu kola improves blood circulation, especially in the lower limbs, while also helping to strengthen the blood vessels and connective tissue. These effects have led to impressive clinical results in treating both varicose veins and cellulite. Suggested use: Gotu kola [500-1500 mg 2 times per day]Butcher`s Broom (ruscus aculeatus)The ability of the herb butcher`s broom to stabilise veins through a vasoconstrictor action, as well as its anti-inflammatory effect, should be of great value in varicose veins. Research has shown butcher`s broom to reduce oedema, heaviness, tingling and cramping in cases of poor circulation in the lower limbs. Suggested use: Butcher`s broom [500 mg 2-3 times per day]Antioxidants (e.g. vitamins A, C and E, selenium and zinc)Nutritional antioxidants help prevent free radical damage to the blood vessels as well as aiding in connective tissue repair. Certian antioxidants, such as vitamin E, directly improve circulation. Suggested use: Antioxidant combination [as directed on label]Bilberry (vaccinium myrtillus)Anthocyanidin flavonoids from bilberry are known to strengthen the walls of vein and improve their function (by benefiting muscle tone in the vein). Suggested use: Bilberry [120-150 mg extract 2 times per day (taken away from food)]BromelainThe pineapple-derived enzyme bromelain breaks down fibrin, a substance that is deposited in the blood vessels, leading to reduced circulation and clotting. In addition, fibrin deposits outside of the veins can cause a lumpy, hardened texture to the surrounding area. Suggested use: Bromelain [500-1000 mg 2-3 times per day (taken away from food)]Suggestion: Suggest avoiding or reducing intake of: tobacco, red meat, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, fried foods, hydrogenated fats.; - Marie L. Guest guest
Hi Aurentia, I think I would try Peppermint essential oil myself. If you give this a try, make sure you have a pure, unadulterated oil with no solvents or toxins in it. Peace, Mouse Marie L. wrote: > Any tips on dealing with varicose veins? It might be difficult to find this tincture commercially available, so you can make it yourself if you have Sweet Clover growing near you. You can make an easy tincture by stuffing a pint jar as full of slightly dried-out Melilot as you can, and then covering it with straight vodka. Steep it for at least 6 weeks, keeping the herbs covered in fresh vodka if the liquid goes down, and keep it on a shelf where it can get indirect sunlight, shaking every week or so. Strain it out, and I think the dose is about one dropperful tincture to a cup of water.....the source of this recipe was " Making Plant Medicine " by Richo Cech. I think that's the right spelling...! Good luck.
