Guest guest
Did you try spraying some vinegar on the area? The vinegar smell goes away, but it also neutralizes the urine odors. ~AuntyB~ - Charlotte Tuesday, June 27, 2006 11:13 AM Animals Happy Tuesday to you all,I do not usually post on here because I am still new to this however,I hope to someday be as knowledgeable as you all are...I do need help with a problem I am having....My son got a puppy about 6 mths ago which brought us upo to 3 rescues. My problem is now having 3 dogs and a bird my home is not the freshes smelling house on the block... we have had a few puppy accidents and have a smell now. Guest guest
Merry Meet Charlotte Vinegar is great for clean ups.It also helps with smell, I mop my floors using vinegar & water. If you don't get the smell out, the animals will go back to the spot again too. For pet smells in general, Rose Geranium is good, and so is Peppermint. BB Althia AmberMyst
Guest guest
yes I use vinegar and a little orange clean mixed and the vinegar seems to keep my pets from going to the same spot.. and other pets will not try to mask the spot where one has gone because the vinegar cleanses the urine right out or whatever.. I have a new puppy and so I am using this method right now , as I own other pets as well....vixenCassy <cavandra wrote: Merry Meet CharlotteVinegar is great for clean ups.It also helps with smell, I mop my floorsusing vinegar & water. If you don't get the smell out, the animals will goback to the spot again too.For pet smells in general, Rose Geranium is good, and so is Peppermint.BBAlthia AmberMystvixen from the trees

Guest guest
How would I apply the Rose Geranium or the Peppermint? Full strength or mixed with what? Thank you Cassy for the help Charlotte Merry Meet Charlotte You could burn them in oil burners, or perhaps put some on cotton balls strategically placed around the house, or or a few drops in some Potpourri............They really do eliminate that pet odour. Puppy accidents are really anoying but luckily there is hope for the little bugger. I've rescued several dogs myself and train dogs for a living so this is one of the few questions I feel confidently qualified to answer. Nature's Miracle or Simple solution are both enzyme cleansers that do work but folks rarely use enough of them to make a difference. The trick is to saturate the stain with an enzyme cleanser with 2X as much enzyme solution as urine, so you need to estimate how much your puppy could hold when the accident happened and double it. Apply the enzyme solution to the stain and wearing a flip flop or shoe with a water resistant sole, step in it, this is very important. The carpet padding is spongey and will need pressure to reabsorb more liquid and mix it with exsisting or old urine. It will also be your only chance of getting any solution down to the floorboards or concrete slab. Now wait 3-4 days or until it is totally dry. Do you still smell it? Then re-apply. The average puppy can go through 2 gallons of this stuff depending on how on top of things you are. Usually it is because they tackled a wider surface than we were aware of by re- wetting in the same place. Be patient and it will get cleaned up. To make your environment more pleasant in the mean time try putting 20-30 drops of citrus oil on your furnace filter or in a pot of boiling water a few times a week. Unfortunately, putting oils on the stain won't help in the long run because dogs can distinguish between urine and geranium or orange, they just think that they created a geranium scented masterpiece. To use essential oils to repel a dog from an area you need citronella and lots of it. We actually use citronella oil in the industry for behavior modification without the nasty choke chain. It is a wonderful discourager. Liberally drop it on your carpet around the stain to prevent re-wetting. Lastly, remember that rescued dogs can be a challenge to potty train. Mostly because of the kennel system, they can often be forced to go in a confined area, the one they sleep in. This can destroy the natural impulse to keep their living area clean and they will have a harder time with this concept. Use lots of praise, when pup gets it right and never punish if you find them in the act, they will just learn to hide from you when they have to go. Limit their access to places where they cannot be watched until you trust them, which should be 6 weeks without a single accident. That is the industry standard for a dog that is considered house trained. Hope this helps and good luck! Jessica
