Hi everyone

I am learning (self-study) about herbal and natural healing using elements from nature, not chemicals or pills. I tried my first remedy today. One of my friends has pain in his knee and his doctor said that he has a bruised his muscles and tendons. There is no therapy that can help him, except walking it off. I took it upon myself to do some research and found the following:

Cabbage leaves help reduce swelling and pain

Epsom salts help "draw out" pain and swelling from an injury.

So, with that information, I tried this thereapy on my friend, I will share it with you, but please, consult your doctor before trying it on yourself.

Knee Pain Therapy

You will need:

A paste made from Epsom salts and hot water

Cabbage leaves that have been blanched in boiling water

Steril gauze or bandages for wrapping

Hot water

Ice water

2 wash rags

Massage oil (made from natural EO's and a carrier oil, I have a jojoba and lavander oil that I use)

You will begin the process by massaging the affected area with simple, gentle strokes. This will loosen and warm the muscles and joints of the knee. 10-15 minutes is enough

Provide compresses of alternating hot and cold packs, dsipping the rags in hot, then ice water. do this for 10-15 minutes

Make a poultice out of the epsom salt and cabbage leaves by placing an amount of salt (enough to cover the affected area) on the knee or painful area, then cover with the cabbage leaves. Wrap the knee and the pack with a dry bandage, on top of the dry bandage, place another bandage that has been dipped in hot water, then wrap once more with another dry bandage. This pack will provide heat to the area in pain, while the salts and cabbage leaves will help soothe the pain away.

Leave on for 2 hours, relax and elevate the knee.

Do this every other day. For people with HBP, consult your dictor before using epsom salts.
