Guest guest
Hello! I was wondering if anyone has any information about symbolism for cottonwood trees? I can't find anything in my books! I've been getting more into Native American culture and spirituality, and finally made the decision last night to order a painted hand drum to use for meditation/journeying, and I wanted to choose one that really felt right for me. I have been working on this decision for two or three years... lol. I take my time. Anyway, I finally narrowed down the artwork to three-five choices last night, couldn't make up my mind, asked my guide to send a dream or vision telling me what he thought would be best (between eagle, wolf, bear, and possibly raven or owl). This morning I woke to see him walking along a high path, with a wolf following him. Soooo... I just ordered the drum, but on the small size I'm getting, couldn't choose the skin or wood. But I did get her to tell me they use cottonwood (it's a Sioux style, so the wood is cut from a tree trunk section, naturally round) and cowskin. You only get to choose on larger drums, which are way too exorbitant for me at present. I would have chosen deerskin and pine, if I could have! I chose a double-sided one, so I don't have to beat on the painted picture and wear it out. It will also look beautiful on the wall. I like the Native American symbolism for Wolf, as given in Jamie Samms' and David Carson's "Medicine Cards", and Cow is also a symbol of the Goddess and of nurturance, but I can't find anything at all on Cottonwood!
