THE VIBRATION OF COLOR

The colors you choose for the interior of your home will have a

significant affect on your life and your Feng Shui. For instance, the

color we select for the walls is rarely changed on a regular basis. You

might say that the energy, or Ch'i, gets locked into a certain vibration

based on how the use of color resonates with the primary residents of

the home. The colors will both support and nourish you, or make you feel

depressed and stagnated. The opinion of all people living within the

home is important and should be considered so everyone can thrive in

their surroundings.

We have all experienced an uplifting feeling when we decide to put a

fresh coat of paint on the walls. The use of color is another matter. It

has been my experience, that most people will stick to white or neutral

tones because they are considered "safe". They are hesitant or afraid to

"experiment" with the use of color. I would say that, on many of my

consultations, it is the lack of color rather than the excess of color

that has been the Feng Shui challenge.

The use of color elicits emotions and feelings. Most people choose to

keep those feelings under control and "just stay neutral", rather than

make a statement that reflects anything about their own personalities.

This is true in "new home" construction. Most all builders choose

completely neutral colors in everything throughout the home. The builder

decides to take this approach in an effort to make it easier for the new

owners to create a home that will reflect their own unique personality

once they take occupancy. If you are working with a builder on a new

home or remodeling project, consider making the decision to use your own

personal selection of color in walls, tile, carpeting, etc.. This may

take some contemplation and research before submitting a final selection

to your builder, however, in most cases it is cost efficient, and time

saving.

Hiring a professional decorator to assist you in this effort often saves

you time and money in the long run. I have been on consultations where a

client has told me she was instructed to paint the wall a particular

color because it's "the trend", or a decorator thought the color would

be appropriate, but they have since discovered that they can no longer

live with the color. A mistake such as this, could also be the result of

the client not voicing their own feelings about what they like. Thus,

relying on the decorator to relieve them of making the decision

themselves. Don't be afraid to tell the decorator the colors you love.

It has been my experience, that people rarely get tired of their

favorite colors. Why you like specific colors can be discovered in

further studying your own personal Feng Shui. The more information you

share with the designer, the more she will be able to guide you through

the process to personalize your space. A designer with knowledge of Feng

Shui can further contribute to your ultimate goal.

If a home is all-neutral, the Ch'i will be subdued. That's not to say

that neutral colors aren't appropriate if you're choosing a calm,

relaxing area. Or, if the neutral wall is a back drop for something

busier and with more color intensity. The repeated use of a neutral

color throughout the home can slow the energy down and anesthetize the

Ch'i to the point of stagnation.

The use of the Baqua in Feng Shui identifies specific areas of the home

that represent the different aspects of our lives. If, for instance, the

master bedroom is located in the relationship area of the home and you

wish to enhance your relationship with your partner. A neutral wall

indicates slower energy. You will want to raise the vibration in that

room by adding maybe a pink color to the walls. Each area of the Bagua

has a color attached to it. Use the Bagua as a tool to personalize your

living space and enhance the areas of your life that you feel are

stagnant or negative. The colors in the Bagua all relate to the "Five

Elements". If you have never been comfortable with color, try painting

just one room. Or, add an adequate amount of color to the walls with

accessories, if intuitively that feels better.

Below are the colors attached to each specific area of the Bagua.

RELATIONSHIP - Red or derivatives of it, such as pink.

CHILDREN - White, pastels or metallic.

HELPFUL PEOPLE - Gray

CAREER - Black or Dar Tones

KNOWLEDGE - Blue

FAMILY - Green

WEALTH - Purple

FAME - Red

CENTER OR EARTH - Yellow or earth tones.

Below are an application of colors to achieve a different energy vibrations.

UPLIFTING - Reds, yellows, and bright colors.

SOOTHING - Blue, green.

SLOW - Browns and dark colors.

POWER - Red and it's dark derivatives, gold, black.

SOFT - Light pastels.

GROUNDED - Neutral beige, tan or brown tones

SEXUAL - Reds, hot pink, orange, and black.

DRAWING - Purple, red, gold.

ROMANTIC - Pink, red, orange, peach.

COOLING - Blue, green, lavender.

NEUTRAL - Beige, white, and tan.

WARMING - Reds, oranges, yellow-green, yellow.

SPIRITUAL - Purple, violet, white

CREATIVE - Vibrant blues, teals, turquoise, orange.

If you change the color of your walls, remember you may have been

comfortable with the energy vibration of the previous color. You may

react to a color change because the energy is different. So allow

yourself approximately three weeks for your energy to shift and become

comfortable with the new color and vibration, or to decide if you really

don't like the color. Have you ever been in a home where you felt the

color of the walls was just "too much"? Then, as you continually go back

to that home to visit, you find yourself getting use to the color, and

suddenly decide that you may actually like that same color somewhere in

your own living space. If we're drawn to a color, I believe that is the

vibration we need at precisely that time.

By using a selection of colors that you love to personalize your home

with the tools of Feng Shui, you will have created an environment that

reflects your needs and your personality. Be firm in your selections if

you really love them and don't be swayed by outside critics. I believe

this. "When someone judges you, they are revealing what their own needs

are rather than understanding what yours might be". (quote by Linda

Hawthorne) Feng Shui can assist you in creating an environment that's

about you, and not a carbon copy of someone else.
