Guest guest
I have a little dog who is in her elder years. She has decided that my daughters bedroom is her place to " tinkle " . Ive tried EVERYTHING before resorting to getting the carpet cleaned. (I had a friend who's kids got deathly ill and where in the hospital for two weeks due to them getting very sick from cleaning the carpets) I guess I waited to long. Sense the carpet was cleaned OMGGGGGGGGGG the smell is 50 times worse I cant even have her sleep in there. I wish I'd of never done it . I covered the carpet with a baking soda/lavendar/peppermint coating yesterday morning. It seemed like it was working last night. This morning I opened the door and NOPEEEEEE. I guess Im going to have to pull up the carpet. Which is very upsetting as I cannot afford to replace it until July . Before I do, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Vinager hasnt worked. I tried that on the spots as soon as she would go. I finally started putting a babygate infront of her room so, our dog hasnt been in there for a week or so. Im hoping there has to be somekind of nutrilizer out there that is natural. Thank you in advance! Ksthy
Guest guest
It sounds like to me that you may have waited too long. If the urine has soaked through to the floor it will be in the flooring. If you shampoo do it when you can have her bedroom window open, place a fan in the window and have it draw air out, or place in room to circulate air. Don't allow your daughter on it for 48 hours and don't use industrial cleaners, regurlar shampoo for a steam machine should be enough. Ultimately, it sounds like your best bet is rip it out. Walmart sells area rugs for 20 bucks 6 x 8 to cover the floor, DO NOT HAVE YOUR CHILDREN THERE WHEN YOU RIP THE RUG. The dust and bacteria will be high. I would definitely keep the dog out of there. Do you have a dehumidifier you could run in there for a few days, or even a window air conditioner? That should get it dried out, and then I would think you could reapply your baking soda and herbs and let them sit overnight before vacuuming. Damp things always smell worse, even dogs themselves! Guest guest
Hi Kathy, A couple of other thoughts... when I get a dead mouse in the basement, it REEKS down there, even after I find the corpse and dispose of it, and what I've found works is to add about a tablespoon of bleach to the dehumidifier tank. I also place out little bowls of coffee beans! They seem to absorb the odor, and give the basement a nice homey scent instead. I don't actually drink coffee, but always have some in the freezer in case guests do. The ones down there now are vanilla... smells great! Guest guest
Yes your probably right. I was using white vinager/water on the spots as soon as I seen them. She hasnt been doing it for that long and she is a tiny dog no more then 5 or 6 pounds. I know with her aging, the urine is more concentrated. I never imagined cleaning the carpets with a carpet cleaner would make it smell sooooo horrible. I knew there was a problem when my neighbor came out with the carpet cleaner and asked if I had any baking soda, so the strong smell happened right away. I just cant figure it out. She used a foam type carpet cleaning machine. It doesnt saturate the carpet. So its not mold and the horrible smell happened right away. Thanks anyways. Ill wait the rest of the day to see if anyone else has any idea's before I pull it up. (UGH what a job that will be ) Kathy , karenw86 <no_reply wrote: > > It sounds like to me that you may have waited too long. Guest guest
My dog has problem like this when he is on steroids for his allergies. I pour baking soda on the spot, after blotting up the moisture, then I work the soda gently into the spot with brush. I let it sit there until it dries, and then vacuum. I have never noticed a smell after. Good Luck, Laura - mistynights234 Monday, May 15, 2006 3:53 AM Help..........carpet problem! I have a little dog who is in her elder years. Guest guest
There is some stuff at Petco or Petsmart that removes the smell. It is a natural enzyme and called " Miracle " something or other. $22 a bottle. I forget the full name. We used it when our cat was peeing. At first it smells just horrible but the smell goes away as it dries. It has to dry on its own. Hope that helps.
