L-glutamine v. MSG (2 totally different things!)

MSG is NOT the same as glutamic acid, though similar. And just

because one thing is a COMPONENT of another (safe) thing doesn't mean

it is safe on its own. For example, HCN is hydrogen cyanide, used

for chemical warfare. But hydrogen, carbon and nitrogen combined in

other ways with other ions makes totally harmless (beneficial) things.

And SIMILAR is not THE SAME. NaH20= saltwater but NaOH is sodium

hydroxide (LYE). Both have sodium, oxygen, and hydrogen ions. Two

totally different things though.

You must be VERY careful when saying two things are the same because

one is a component of the other or the ions involved are the same but

in different proportions. It can make all the difference in the

world!

L-glutamine

Is the most abundant amino acid in the human body and the most recent

to generate excitement as a hGF releaser. L-Glutamine, a free-form

amino acid, is also the most common naturally-occurring amino acid

found in muscle tissue. Glutamine influences protein synthesis,

glycogen storage, and boosts the immune system. It is the link

between strength, stamina, and muscle development.

MSG

Monosodium glutamate, E 621 or Sodium Glutamate (IUPAC name- 2-

Aminopentanedioic acid,2-Aminoglutaric acid,1-Aminopropane-1,3-

dicarboxylic acid), commonly known as MSG, is a salt of sodium with

glutamic acid. It is best known for its use as a flavour enhancer. In

its pure form it appears as a white crystalline powder; when

dissolved in water (or saliva) it rapidly dissociates into free

sodium and glutamate ions.

Glutathione

A tri-peptide, made from glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine. It is

the major anti-oxidant species in cells, and along with cysteine, it

is critical for binding and detoxifying heavy metals. Levels of GSH

are low in autism and the ratio of GSH to its oxidized form (GSSG) is

low, indicating the presence of oxidation stress. GSH is also

required for synthesis of methyl B12, so low levels can contribute to

reduced methionine synthase activity.
