Monsanto, through US is also controlling Iraq!

I just stumbled onto this article, this blows me away! US, with Monsanto

forcing these seeds onto not just US citizens, but farmers in Iraq. We are

just losing more and more, every day!

US Declares Iraqis Must

Destroy Their Own Seeds

For the record: " U.S. declares Iraqis can not save their own seeds "

" As part of sweeping " economic restructuring " implemented by the Bush

Administration in Iraq, Iraqi farmers will no longer be permitted to save

their seeds, which include seeds the Iraqis themselves have developed over

hundreds of years. Instead, they will be forced to buy seeds from US

corporations. That is because in recent years, transnational corporations

have patented and now own many seed varieties originated or developed by

indigenous peoples. In a short time, Iraq will be living under the new

American credo:

Pay Monsanto, or starve . "

" The American Administrator of the Iraqi CPA (Coalition Provisional

Authority) government, Paul Bremer, updated Iraq's intellectual property law

to 'meet current internationally-recognized standards of protection'. The

updated law makes saving seeds for next year's harvest, practiced by 97% of

Iraqi farmers in 2002, and is the standard farming practice for thousands of

years across human civilizations, to be now illegal.. Instead, farmers will

have to obtain a yearly license for genetically modified (GM) seeds from

American corporations. These GM seeds have typically been modified from

seeds developed over thousands of generations by indigenous farmers like the

Iraqis, and shared freely like agricultural 'open source.' "

Iraq law Requires Seed Licenses November 13, 2004

" According to Order 81, paragraph 66 - , issued by L. Paul Bremer [CFR], the

people in Iraq are now prohibited from saving seeds and may only plant seeds

for their food from licensed, authorized U.S. distributors.

The paragraph states, " Farmers shall be prohibited from re-using seeds of

protected varieties or any variety mentioned in items 1 and 2 of paragraph

[C] of Article 14 of this chapter. "

Written in massively intricate legalese, Order 81 directs the reader at

Article 14, paragraph 2 [C] to paragraph of Article 4, which states any

variety that is different from any other known variety may be registered in

any country and become a protected variety of seed - thus defaulting it into

the " protected class " of seeds and prohibiting the Iraqis from reusing them

the following season. Every year, the Iraqis must destroy any seed they

have, and repurchase seeds from an authorized supplier, or face fines,

penalties and/or jail time. "

As per an Iraqi proverb, the day will come, sooner rather than later, when

the Iraqis will shred Bremer's Laws, soak them in water and offer the glass

to Bremer to drink.

This is the freedom that comes with the American form of democracy?

Friends - This is a crime against Mother Nature, Herself.

Any corporation that does this must, like the governments making this

possible, be held responsible for irreparable damage to our ecosphere, as

the gm pollens spread, and their terminator genes stop all food supply.

Even the wild bees have died out in many parts of our world.

Goodbye to pollinating the trees and the crops we depend on.

If you want yourself and your kids to starve to death, then remain silent

now.

Barring any concerned citizens standing up on their hind legs to shout down

the politicians now, any professional or amateur military force that goes

out and destroys the war-criminals and those committing these atrocities

against Nature, must be considered heroes.

If i had the cash and the knowledge, I would do so myself.

It's pure evil...true nevertheless

The Mustard Oil Conspiracy

Ecologist, The, June, 2001 by Vandana Shiva

Mustard oil, whose production and consumption were until recently integral

to India's way of life, has been banned, so as to provide a market for

Monsanto's soya oil.

On 27 August 1998, the government of India banned the sale of mustard oil.

On 4 September it went further and banned the sale of all unpackaged edible

oils. The decision was a terrible blow to the Indian population. In many

states, mustard oil is an essential constituent of the diet. It has a high

oil content, is usually processed locally, and is available to the poor at

low cost, especially when unpackaged. One can go so far as to say that it is

an integral part of India's food economy, having been integrated into

cropping and food patterns over centuries.

“We do not buy seeds from the market because we suspect they may be

contaminated with genetically engineered or terminator seeds,” says Pavamma,

a Dalit woman in village Palarum, near the town of Zaheerabad, about 110 kms

north-west of the high-tech city of Hyderabad.

George W Bush signed “Knowledge Initiative in Agriculture” [KIA] with

Manmohan Singh [the Indian Prime Minister] in March 2006, cheered by

representatives of Monsanto and Wal-Mart, in the same city. Pavamma does not

know about KIA. .

Pavamma looks after a household of 14 members, from 2 year old infants to 80

year old grandparents. She owns nine acres of land in semi arid Deccan

plateau. One acre, she says, is sufficient to feed her household highly

nutritious three full meals every day all year round. The surplus from eight

is sold or stored in the household food bank. I spent about two hours with

her and learnt that she has a bank of fifty different seeds that she says

she needs “to feed her household properly.”

Seeds of a costly collaboration?

K. P. Prabhakaran Nair

India-US Knowledge Initiative in agriculture

In November 2005, following the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to

the US, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) invited private

American capital for the " rapid commercialisation " of Indian agriculture and

offered to open its vast network of research institutes for " collaborative "

research. One must view with trepidation what might be in store. Let us look

at the details of this " collaboration " .

Under the India-US " Knowledge Initiative " on agricultural research and

education, representatives of both the Wal-Mart food chain and agri-business

giant, Monsanto Seed Corporation, sat on the board at the first meeting held

in Washington D.C. in December 2005. Both were keen on retailing and trade

aspects of agriculture in India. Research in transgenic plants, animals and

fisheries would form the bulk of the " collaborative " research efforts.

The principal aim of the India-US Knowledge Initiative is to get a foothold

in the Indian agricultural market and convert the country's primarily

subsistence farming type of agriculture, which provides a livelihood to

millions of poor farmers, into the American kind of agri-business. This will

inevitably displace millions of these poor farmers, pushing more to the

brink.

India has a very big market for agricultural products. It is important to

realise that more than four decades ago it was at the American initiative

that the " miracle " wheat seeds were imported from Mexico's International

Centre for Maize and Wheat Research and sown in Indian fields. The Mexican

wheat required large doses of chemical fertilisers, pesticides and

weedicides to produce high yields.

After the Second World War, many factories in the US, manufacturing war

chemicals until then, were remodelled to produce chemical fertilisers, which

needed to be commercially and profitably exploited by the US in a big way.

Indian soils offered the best place to dump them. And India had no

fertiliser manufacturing technology worth the name at that time.

Thus began the so-called Green Revolution, a combination of imported seeds

(later crossed with the native ones) and liberal use of imported chemical

fertilisers. Similarly, rice seeds were imported from the International Rice

Research Institute in the Philippines, controlled by the Ford Foundation.

One thing to do, for sure, is to store seeds. I'm worried about what

these awful seeds will do when they cross-pollinate with other crops. Will

they render them sterile, too?

Monsanto has my vote for being the Beast! They are also the ones

providing the Roundup Ultra which is poisoning Colombia and Ecuador with all

the coca spraying.
