Guest guest
I see there have been discussions about beta blockers for premature venticular contractions. In June of 2005 I had prenumonia which involved a rapid heart rate, usually between 90 and 95. At that time I started taking digoxin to keep my heart rate from going above 90. Then, in October of 2005 I went to a heart specialist and he said I had occasional irregular heart beats and kept me on digoxin. The heart specialist did not go into detail on what he might have thought was going on. So I don't know if its premature venticular contractions or what. The digoxin I take is the lower dose, of .125mg. For a few weeks in September of this year I started taking digoxin every other day rather than once a day. But one day after jogging about ten minutes I noticed that my heart rate did not drop to normal as quickly as it should have and I noticed what seemed to be an occasional skipped heart beat. So I began taking digoxin every morning again - and haven't had the problem with jogging since. I wonder if there are food supplements that might work in place of digoxin? CoenzQl0 maybe? I take 30 mg a day now, which is a lower amount. What about other food supplements. I know about herbs for the heart like Hawthorn or Cayenne, and I use them, but they probably do not work for irregular heart beats like digoxin appears to work. On http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/dig_ad.htm it says " Digoxin can produce visual disturbances (blurred or yellow vision), headache, weakness, dizziness, apathy, confusion, and mental disturbances (such as anxiety, depression, delirium, and hallucination). " I have not noticed any of these with the lower dose I'm taking. I have read about the possible psychotropic effects of digoxen elsewhere, such as apathy or depression.
