Where? Where? Please tell where you are able to find shelled almonds for $3. I want some. Thanks. CU - Marjie>>

At my neighborhood WalMart (supercenter) in the produce aisle, next to the potatoes. Lately, I am also buying their Filberts/Hazelnuts which DO have shell on them. They are $2 a pound and it take me half an hour to shell and pulverize a pound of filberts. A lot of times I blend them with pulverized almonds. Do this price comparison test. Go to any (other) grocery store and walk back to the "dried nuts in little plastic bag" aisle. Buy a tiny bag of hazelnuts for $3, maybe 2 ounces. Take em home and open them: they're all RANCID. Compare that with the fresh-cracked hazelnuts you crack yourself. No comparison: healthwise or tastewise or MONEYwise.

You got a chuckle from me. Reckon you get a bonus. Got a treat and it cures stuff too (curing being the bonus).

I started eating almonds "cause they were sposed to be good for you" years ago. And instantly I found that I liked the taste. I buy a pound of them (already shelled, whole and unsalted, unroasted) for about $3 bucks. I then grind about 30 of them in the lil food mill slash blender. You can also buy a "coffee grinder" for a buck at a yard sale and grind em in there. Now they are finely milled, coarser than flour but fairly smooth and fine. I eat em just like that: either with tea or with hot chocolate. They are DELISH. I really dont care if they increase or shorten lifespan: they just TASTE GOOD! .

DON'T BUY THEM AT THE BIG STORES LIKE WALMART! PAY THE EXTRA AND GET GOOD UNTAINTED FRESH NO-PESTICIDE, NO SALT, "HEALTHY" ALMONDS AT YOUR LOCAL HEALTH FOOD STORE!>>

I have tried. The Dates and the Almonds are often rancid at healthfood stores. I buy some herbs and supplements at healthfood, but even then, I notice very uneven quality. For instance, I had been buying slippering elm powder (in bulk glass jar and which I had measured out to buy a few ounces). Then the quality of that Slippery Elm powder REALLY fell to crap. It didn't taste the same, was very poor about stirring into a gel-paste. Made me think it was either intentionally or accidentally adulterated. As for shopping WalMart, anytime you don't like the quality of any item, they cheerfully refund your money. Their almonds and filberts are the freshest I can find anywhere.

Er, I must have missed a post, but if it was an " almonds prevent

cancer " kind of post the almonds referred to are bitter almonds,

not sweet almonds they sell at Wal-Mart. Sweet almonts don't

contain the cyanide compound.
