Often the problem is the lack of enough stomach acidity

combined with a weaken tightening response in the

lower esophageal sphincter. I more or less agree with

the food list especially for those person in which their

reflux problem has resulted in a inflamed esophagus.

The conventional medications such as Nexium while helpful in acute

situations, when taken long term have a long list

of adverse effects. A trip to alternative medicine minded

Doc would be a wise investment in your health.

The conventional suggest of raising the head of the bed

by 6 to 8 inches with blocks while helpful isn't enough.

I use 18 inches of elevation at the head of my specially

built bed. It has a foam mattress. The standard innerspring

mattress doesn't take kindly to being inclined and in

my experience will tend to cause serious back pain.

GERD was a nightmare for me. But after going to

a alternative med Doc and using the inclined bed

as described I've been both med free and symptom

free for 27 months. The conventional primary care

providers with their PPI meds and their H-2 blocker

were never that effective plus they made me sick.

I follow my alt Doc suggest I use betaine HCL

with my fattier meals and this helps to

prevent reflux.

Once I was healed and provided I take

betaine HCL capsule with meal some of these

food are OK. In my case, I still need

to avoid coffee and excess citrus.

I speak from bitter experience. The PPI

meds and H-2 blockers are at best

a short term stopgap measure.
