Guest guest
http://www.centeru.com/cuforums/archive/index.php/t-13.html Below is a page I found a link to Mary Solomon from the center U website, also are listed a lot of my symptoms, even though this is not listed on my nutrient plan do you think it would be a good product to take? Also, she talks about iodine and thyroid, what does Dr. Mahoney say about iodine need? I was going to order both products to work together even though none are listed on my nutrient plan... Or am I just suppose to stick to the nutrient plan??? To buy all that is listed would cost me a small fortune, I don't know what to do... But here are the products and the symptoms they list that are really me! Can you let me know what you think, I am not sure what I am suppose to do because of the my nutrient plan on your web site?? Any help you could give me would be appreciated... I am just so confused, thanks gerimThyroid Helper™Improve Thyroid and Metabolism FunctionHoliday Super Sale!Details Ingredients Q & A90 caps $24 20% off! $19.20Naturally enhances the conversion of thyroid hormone (T4) to the metabolically active form (T3), clearing up many low thyroid symptoms.Helps weight loss caused by low thyroid functions (eats little and still can't lose weight or a history of yo-yo or starvation dieting).Improves mood, motivation, focus, and energy.Reduces fat deposition in hips, thighs, liver, and arteries. Helps prevent the "pear shape".Lowers LDL cholesterol, may increase HDL cholesterol.About Thyroid Helper™ The classic symptoms of low thyroid are: low body temperature, cold hands/feet, fatigue, weight gain, constipation, depression, dry skin, rough skin on elbows, loss of the outside portion of eyebrows, brittle hair, hair loss, headaches in the morning, energy drops in the afternoon, and/or elevated cholesterol. Often, thyroid lab tests may be normal, but the hormone is not active. Thyroid Helper solves this problem. It can be used even if a person is on thyroid medication. Thyroid Helper™: Boost Your Thyroid Naturally!A Society with Pervasive Thyroid Issues Over 50% of our culture struggles with some level of thyroid problem. The symptoms involve at least several of the following: low body temperature, fatigue, weight gain, constipation, depression, dry skin, rough skin on elbows, loss of the outside portion of eyebrows, brittle hair, hair loss, headaches in the morning, energy drops in the afternoon, and/or elevated cholesterol. In most cases the problem is not in the thyroid gland. The problem lies in activation of the thyroid hormone at the cellular level (the conversion of T4 to T3). This is why doctors miss 90% of thyroid problems. They simply don’t show up on a lab test, yet the person has all the symptoms. Many factors interfere with proper thyroid hormone activation, including stress, many medications, alcohol, pollution, estrogen, soy protein intake, and physical trauma. Thyroid Helper is designed to tackle the main problem: restoring the natural, proper, and healthy conversion of T4 to T3.Selenium, the Missing Mineral Selenium deficiency is the single most important missing nutrient in proper thyroid function.1,2,3 This is because it is critical to the proper function of the enzyme that converts T4 (basic thyroid hormone) to its active form (T3). When the body does not make enough T3 then major problems with metabolism occur. This is regardless of how much thyroid hormone the thyroid gland makes or the dose of a thyroid prescription medication.Besides the fact that selenium is missing from our soils and thus very difficult to find in any food, it is also used up in large amounts to process toxins. We live in a very polluted environment, a daily demand on human detox systems that can easily provoke a selenium deficiency large enough to cause major thyroid problems. Individuals with toxin issues (chemically sensitive) and low thyroid symptoms are likely to need 500 mcg of selenium per day just to prevent deficiency. Human studies using selenium to fix thyroid problems range from 300 mcg to 1,000 mcg per day. Note: three Daily Energy capsules contain 50 mcg selenium, three Daily Protector contain 100 mcg selenium. Manganese, the Anti Pear Shape Nutrient About 20 years ago, the mineral manganese developed its reputation as the anti-pear nutrient, due to its ability to help resolve weight gain on the hips and thighs. This excess weight distribution pattern is the hallmark of the low thyroid metabolic type.Manganese is involved in hundreds of enzyme reactions in the human body. Adequate manganese is needed for healthy reproduction, fertility, antioxidants, bone strength, and seizure prevention. In humans manganese deficiency causes fat to accumulate in the liver and arteries.4,5 In animals manganese deficiency has been proven to cause undesirable accumulation of body fat.6 Tyrosine, a Natural Energizer Tyrosine is an amino acid. It is the central molecule in thyroid hormone, and therefore needed to make thyroid hormone in the first place. Tyrosine also nourishes the sympathetic nervous system. Unlike nervous system stimulants (caffeine, Ritalin, amphetamines, cigarettes, ephedra), tyrosine actually nourishes the nervous system. This allows for a natural way to enhance focus, motivation, and energy. Ashwaganda, a Stress Reducing Thyroid Booster Ashwagandha has been used for thousands of years in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. It is considered to be a multipurpose herb traditionally used for arthritis, energy improvement, and overall health and longevity. It is now gaining worldwide attention and numerous scientific studies are under way to validate its mechanisms of action. A recent animal study showed that it was able to raise T3 levels, while at the same time reducing liver stress (by improving liver antioxidant status).7 Since the liver is the main site of T4 to T3 conversion in the body, this is a significant finding. It is now recognized by scientists that stress is a major factor that blocks the conversion of T4 to T3.8 The reason we put Ashwaganda in this formula is because it gives us one more nutrient that has an ability to help the body normalize its stress response. In other words, the herb helps the body to overcome stress so that stress does not take such a toll. There are currently over 50 scientific articles shedding light on this herb’s mechanisms of action. Research now shows that Ashwaganda possesses anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antistress, antioxidant, immune enhancing, and general physical rejuvenating properties.9 Minimally, this herb helps offset the wear and tear of life, which is proven to be a very important aspect of helping thyroid hormone work better.Gugulipids: A Thyroid Booster that Lowers Cholesterol and Helps an Overweight Person Lose WeightGugulipids have been used in Ayurvedic medicine since at least 600 BC to treat overweight individuals.10 They have been shown to lower LDL cholesterol up to 25%, as well as increase HDL up to 35%.11,12 Since cholesterol lowering medication is very toxic, it is always nice to have another nutrient that helps clear the body of excess LDL while enhancing the protective HDL (which cholesterol lowering medication does not do).It is well known that many individuals with low thyroid hormone activity have elevated LDL cholesterol. Improvement in thyroid hormone formation and enzyme activity that enhances thyroid hormone function has been demonstrated by Gugulipids.13 No IodineThe Thyroid Helper formula does not contain any iodine. It is true that some iodine is essential for the formation of thyroid hormone. We carry a special preparation of free iodine called Iosol Iodine. This is more useful than salt and kelp and is by far the most effective form of iodine for supplementation. This may be used with Thyroid Helper for enhanced thyroid function. SummaryThyroid Helper™ is designed to boost metabolism by resolving issues that unnaturally block the conversion of T4 to T3. This is the cause of thyroid problems in virtually every person whose lab tests are normal, yet they have a long list of symptoms demonstrating low thyroid function. Thyroid problems are part of the health picture in any person who does not feel good or any person that has difficulty losing weight, which is clearly over half of the American population.Once thyroid problems are set in motion, numerous health issues may develop because thyroid hormones effect the proper metabolic activities of every cell in the human body. While there are the classic symptoms of low thyroid, the consequences of low thyroid can effect anything.Part of optimal health is ensuring proper body weight and a good energy level. The proper functioning of thyroid hormone is essential for this to occur.sgerjets12-08-2005, 11:05 PMMy recommendation would be look at the supplement summary list on your summary page. This is the first page you get into on the report. It will probably have no more than 6 nutrients. This short list is made up of the key nutrients to hit as many problem areas at once. For instance if the system recommended Adrenal Glandulars in your short list they are probably being recommended because you have multiple areas that will benefit from them for instance Thyroid, Adrenal, Hormonal issues, and inflammation. With this short list you will get benefit across multiple areas that may be causing you issues. In other words, a Thyoid focused product may not address why the thyroid is slow in the first place. It may be due to stress induced adrenal slowdown and just mask the symptoms but never fix the issue. So here is what I would do, look at your short list of nutrients and see if you can afford just those. If not maybe I can help you pick the few that would really benefit. Make sure you get a good multi-vitamin to start. Check the nutrient examples in your report. The cool thing about the list of nutrients in the report is that we make no money off of consumables so we are going to give you just what we think you need.bbbmusr12-08-2005, 11:17 PMThank you so much for all your help... I really consider it a blessing to have found this site and been talking with you. I took my results in to my chiropractor and he helped me fill some of the supplements I needed for my worn out adrenals. I must say that since I have started on them which is about 5 days now, I already have had some relief in the way if was feeling. I am so glad I tuned into that health program when I did, now I want to share this web site with the rest of my family, i.e. brothers and sisters.. I am going to send them all a link and tell them how great it is, especially my one sister who use to take medication for thyroid and took herself off, but she has not been feeling well lately so I want her to atleast take the assessment. Plus, I am going to put a link in my friends and family and send them all an email to a great web site... Now I just have one more question for you... I had sent you that email about taking some supplements that I found on Mary Solomon's web site, and you were going to ask Dr. Mahoney, but, all I want to know now is about iodine... How does one know they need to take as a supplement... Below is from her web site on another supplement I was thinking about taking, it is iodine, and I wanted to know what you think or Dr. Mahoney thinks about the need for this. It reads that it works to support the thyroid but I do not see anything on your web site that lists the need for it... Can you let me know about this.. I am attaching it below for you to read: I don't know if it would benefit me or if I should order it... She seems to be the only one talking about iodine.. What does Dr. Mahoney say about iodine insuffiency or how to tell, or can you just take it??? THIS IS THE IODINE THEY SUGGEST:Iosol Iodine Helps warm low body temperature.1 fluid oz - $18 20% SALE: $14.40Ionized iodine for formation of thyroid hormone.Helps breast swelling and symptoms of excess estrogen.Warms a cold person up (symptom of a thyroid problem).Protective against radiation exposure (including radiation from airplanes).Iodine is important for pregnancy. The Latest on Iodine NeedIodine is essential in the formation of thyroid hormone. Iodine use as an antiseptic is also well established. Since the discovery of iodine in 1812 it has been used extensively by European medical practitioners for a variety of diseases, including lung diseases, tumors, syphilis, and intense anxiety.1We have known for many years that free iodine is in high concentration in the ovaries and breast tissue. A lack of it predisposes a woman to cystic breasts and ovarian problems. Applying our special preparation of iodine topically to the breasts will frequently resolve cystic or painful breast issues in a short period of time. It has been known since 1976 that a lack of iodine increased the risk of breast, endometrial, and ovarian cancer.2 This lack of iodine causes excess estrogenic states and imbalance in proper estrogen ratios. Animal studies confirm the fibrous breast tissue changes that occur with a lack of iodine.3,4Dr. Jay12-09-2005, 08:33 AMFirst, let me say that I trust a few of my medical school teachings even twenty years after training. When it comes to thyroid I prefer to follow the researchers in the field who stay current. One of them is Mary Shomon who is a thyroid patient and she has written a nice simple review of iodine supplementation. She is definitely in the "probably not helpful" camp. I agree with her mostly with a couple exceptions. You can access her iodine page at www.thyroid.about.com/cs/vitaminsupplement/a/iodine.htm. In some of my patients who opt for alternative treatment of cancer there is a strong preference for the use of iodine (Lugol's solution) to support the immune function, presumably through thyroid overdrive! Dr. Max Gerson usually considered the use of thyroid hormone and then used the iodine. You can check out Gerson's cancer therapy info at www.gerson-research.org/docs/WardPS-1988-1/ It is amazing to me how much pressure used to be brought to bear on individuals who thought outside the box. The internet is making it very difficult for these things to continue ;>)Overall I put to gether the Better Body Brighter Mind System with the team while considering all the possibilities and "bedside research" on what works efficiently, inexpensively and consistently. The nutrient plan you've been offered has all of the basics to produce normal thyroid activity (Without iodine addition and without thyroid hormone supplementation) Further treatment should be supervised. Low-dose iodine can be tried but may result in negative consequences that mimic hypothyroidism. The following is from the book "Folk Medcine" which seems to be unbiased and very pro-iodine. They make the point that iodine deficiency is caused by so much chlorine in our environment. The mechanism behind "halogen displacement" was probably best described by J.C. Jarvis, M.D. (Folk Medicine, Henry Holt & Co., 1958, HB, p. 136), who wrote: "The clinical activity of any one of these four halogens is in inverse proportion to its atomic weight. This means that any one of the four can displace the element with a higher atomic weight, but cannot displace an element with a lower atomic weight. For example, flourine can displace chlorine, bromine and iodine because flourine has a lower atomic weight than the other three. Similarly, chlorine can displace bromine and iodine because they both have a higher atomic weight. Likewise, bromine can displace iodine from the body because iodine has a higher atomic weight. But a reverse order is not possible. A knowledge of this well-known chemical law brings us to a consideration of the addition of chlorine to our drinking water as a purifying agent. We secure a drinking water that is harmful to the body not because of its harmful germ content but because the chlorine content now causes the body to lose the much-needed iodine..." To counter the effects of iodine loss, Dr. Jarvis recommended various methods including: (1) Eating foods rich in iodine: food from the ocean, radishes, asparagus, carrots, tomatoes, spinach, rhubarb, potatoes, peas, strawberries, mushrooms, lettuce, bananas, cabbage, egg yolk, and onions; (2) Painting a small area of the body with tincture of iodine; and (3) taking preparations known to be rich in iodine, including cod liver oil, kelp tablets ... But he was particularly keen on the power of Lugol's iodine, for treating various illnesses, including colds and flu, and for countering the effects of stress: "Supposing you do follow the suggestions outlined above and find that some weeks the pressures of your private and your business life are causing you to lose the ability to bounce back. Then you should add a drop of Lugol's solution of iodine to your glass of apple or grape juice at breakfast, or you may take it in the mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. The point is that the potassium in the solution (Lugol's is 5% potassium iodine) blocks off the body mechanism that organizes for aggressive action, releasing its hold on the body when opportunity for rest and relaxation arises. The iodine swings into action the body and the building up and storing of body reserves. When working under pressure, include the Lugol's solution dose each day until the period of pressure passes. If it should happen that your body becomes saturated with iodine, you will find that there is an increase of moisture in the nose. If this occurs, omit the iodine until the nose is normal." For my part I am a little more in the "SHOW ME" camp.........I always like to draw the thyroid tests:TSHFreeT3FreeT4Once these are completed it's easy to see whether it's necessary to add thyroid hormone or use adrenal support or both. Use the temperature test to evaluate whether your metabolic rate is high enough. www.centeru.com/library/handoutBasalBodyTemp.php If temperature is consistently low after supplementing according to your plan and following your exercise and Precision Mix Eating Plan it's unlikely that you'll do well without thyroid hormone supplementation. Iodine can always be tried in low doses, by itself for a few days and monitor the effect on your temperature testing and symptoms.I know that's a long answer but it deserves thorough consideration.
