There's no end to the things the dairy industry will dream up to sellmore cow's milk to humans. First, it was the preposterous idea thatdrinking milk was the best way to build strong bones. In reality, acup of broccoli juice has more calcium than a cup of milk, yet withoutall the saturated, homogenized animal fat. And most bone loss in the U.S. is caused by vitamin D deficiency, not calcium deficiency. Peopleneed more sunlight, not more milk.

 

Next came the silly idea that drinking milk would help you loseweight, as if chugging artificially-modified liquid fats from anotherspecies would reverse obesity in humans. We could all be thin and fit,the commercials promised, if we only drank enough cow's milk.

 

And now, the dairy industry is pushing the latest junk sciencediscovery: That drinking milk prevents type-2 diabetes. It's a diseaseprevention claim that the FDA would never allow for a nutritionalsupplement, but somehow the dairy industry gets away with telling thebiggest lies of all.

 

It's all based on junk science combined with clever marketing. Wherethere's money to be made, the science can always be invented ordistorted.
