I am a biochemist by training and lately there is certain parties trying to spread misinformation by participating in various forum that B6 is not good for you. Lately there has been several " forum assassins " trying to spread misinformation that chelation of mercury is dangerous, and will not work on autistics, and other. Currently that i am aware of there is about 100,000 forum assassins who are quite active throughout cyberspace trying to spread misinformation in forums. The best way to handle this is go straight to the horses' mouth: pubmed, real research abstracts that you can check out yourself. Sometimes, when research becomes conflicting I go directly through the patent office where research are all compiled and conducted there for you. You will find a near unanimous research results that B6 increases MELATONIN, not reduced!!! The other thing is I studied biochemistry, B6 and tryptophan is used for years to induce sleep and regular circadium rhythms. Check out a good biochemistry book in your nearest library!! The other groups did not showed significant differences in melatonin concentrations. Statistical analysis shows that the administration of pyridoxine during the nocturnal hours represents a stimulating factor to increase the pineal production of melatonin in children. A schizophrenic patient with severe neuroleptic-induced Parkinsonism and Tardive Dyskinesia is presented in whom administration of pyridoxine (vitamin B6) (100 mg/d) resulted in dramatic and persistent attenuation of the movement disorders as well as reduction of psychotic behavior. Since pyridoxine deficiency is associated with marked reduction of cerebral serotonin concentrations and pineal melatonin production in rats, the effects of pyridoxine on the movement disorder and psychosis may have been mediated largely by enhancing serotonin and melatonin functions. An additional effect of excess pyridoxine administration on GABA and dopamine activity cannot be excluded. Pyridoxine has been reported to attenuate the severity of levodopa-induced dyskinesias in patients with Parkinson's disease and it is suggested that pyridoxine supplementation should be considered in psychiatric patients with drug-induced movement disorders including persistent Parkinsonism. An underlying pyridoxine deficiency in these patients may exacerbate the psychotic behavior and additionally, potentially increase the risk of drug-induced movement disorders. The level of melatonin in the blood serum was being determined through the method of radio-immune (immune-enzyme) analysis. Based on the results received it was found out that the influence of the vitamin B6, tryptophan and their combination in the organism of the tested objects - white rats) resulted in the considerable increase of formation of melatonin. In the conditions of feeding them with high-calorie food - the value of melntonin in blood is sharply reducing. Consequently we may conclude that the vitamin B6 and tryptophan separately and in combination, either directly or through some other mechanism participate actively in biosynthesis and secretion of melatonin. The high-calorie food through unknown mechanism to us reduces the formation of the melatonin in epiphysis.
