In an attempt to rebuke the B6 disease, here is the

right information.

I am a biochemist by training and lately there is

certain parties trying to spread misinformation by

participating in various forum that B6 is not good for

you. Lately there has been several " forum assassins "

trying to spread misinformation that chelation of

mercury is dangerous, and will not work on autistics,

and other. Currently that i am aware of there is about

100,000 forum assassins who are quite active

throughout cyberspace trying to spread misinformation

in forums. The best way to handle this is go straight

to the horses' mouth: pubmed, real research abstracts

that you can check out yourself. Sometimes, when

research becomes conflicting I go directly through the

patent office where research are all compiled and

conducted there for you. You will find a near

unanimous research results that B6 increases

MELATONIN, not reduced!!!

The other thing is I studied biochemistry, B6 and

tryptophan is used for years to induce sleep and

regular circadium rhythms. Check out a good

biochemistry book in your nearest library!!

Now to dispel the myth that B6 can destroy your

melatonin, in biochemistry we used this to help with

your sleep. Even in Children. Feel free to check out

To characterize the pineal response to pyridoxine,

plasma melatonin was measured in one hundred and

twenty children 3 hours after vitamin B6

administration. The children, aged between 1.5 and 8

years, were divided in four groups as follows: a)

control day group, grouping 27 children sampled at

9:00 and at 12:00; b) control night group, grouping 29

children sampled at 21:00 and at 24:00; c) pyridoxine

day group, grouping 30 children sampled at 9:00, then

intravenously (i.v.) injected with 3 mg/kg of

pyridoxine, and sampled at 12:00; and d) pyridoxine

night group, grouping 34 children sampled at 21:00,

i.v. injected with 3 mg/kg of pyridoxine, and sampled

at 24:00. Melatonin concentration was measured by

radioimmuno assay. The data obtained showed a

significant increase in melatonin levels after

pyridoxine administration in the pyridoxine night

group (39.87 +/- 8.02 pg/ml basal vs 88.45 +/- 9.21

pg/ml after pyridoxine, p < 0.001). The other groups

did not showed significant differences in melatonin

concentrations. Statistical analysis shows that the

administration of pyridoxine during the nocturnal

hours represents a stimulating factor to increase the

pineal production of melatonin in children.

Surgeons of Columbia University, New York State

Drug-induced Parkinsonism is a common serious

side-effect of neuroleptic therapy. In cases of

irreversible drug-induced Parkinsonism,

pharmacological management is notoriously difficult. A

schizophrenic patient with severe neuroleptic-induced

Parkinsonism and Tardive Dyskinesia is presented in

whom administration of pyridoxine (vitamin B6) (100

mg/d) resulted in dramatic and persistent attenuation

of the movement disorders as well as reduction of

psychotic behavior. Since pyridoxine deficiency is

associated with marked reduction of cerebral serotonin

concentrations and pineal melatonin production in

rats, the effects of pyridoxine on the movement

disorder and psychosis may have been mediated largely

by enhancing serotonin and melatonin functions. An

additional effect of excess pyridoxine administration

on GABA and dopamine activity cannot be excluded.

Pyridoxine has been reported to attenuate the severity

of levodopa-induced dyskinesias in patients with

Parkinson's disease and it is suggested that

pyridoxine supplementation should be considered in

psychiatric patients with drug-induced movement

disorders including persistent Parkinsonism. An

underlying pyridoxine deficiency in these patients may

exacerbate the psychotic behavior and additionally,

potentially increase the risk of drug-induced movement

disorders.

Biotechnology, Academy of Sciences of Georgia.

The goal of the investigation was the determination of

the influence of Ca(2+), vitamin B6 methionine,

tryptophan, the combination of the listed elements and

high-calorie food on the intensity of synthesis and

secretion of melatonin. The level of melatonin in the

blood serum was being determined through the method of

radio-immune (immune-enzyme) analysis. Based on the

results received it was found out that the influence

of the vitamin B6, tryptophan and their combination in

the organism of the tested objects - white rats)

resulted in the considerable increase of formation of

melatonin. In the conditions of feeding them with

high-calorie food - the value of melntonin in blood is

sharply reducing. Consequently we may conclude that

the vitamin B6 and tryptophan separately and in

combination, either directly or through some other

mechanism participate actively in biosynthesis and

secretion of melatonin. The high-calorie food through

unknown mechanism to us reduces the formation of the

melatonin in epiphysis. This might point to the

important role of the deficit of melatonin in

etiopathogenesis of the diseases, detected and

developed on the background of hypercholesterinemy.

Excellent Ted - thanks - a friend of mine - allopathic GP (deceased 1990) used to prescribe B6 1,000mg per day for carpal tunnel - have never found anyone else giving that much or any reference to its use at that level.
