Hi Jaime,

I am not a Belly Button expert! However, I want to tell you two

things that came to mind reading your question.

(1) Low grade infection

I had a laproscopy a few years back. The doctor cut me directly

through my navel. I did not develop an infection, but I've noticed

if rub my stomach (as I often do with the castor packs) it is

painful down there. It is not excruciating, but noticeable. I make

sure to clean it specifically with each shower and about once a week

saturate a cotton ball in peroxide and wear a back brace thingy to

hold it in all night.

(2) Don't get upset, but it could be psychological

First, after years of hearing this word from doctors when I was

doing all but bleeding from my eyeballs, I hate even thinking it!

let me explain what I mean.

Some people have a tendency to think of tickling as cool. However,

to the recipient, it can be quite torturous. When we were little,

we'd go to our cousin's house and all of us girls would jump our

uncle and tickle him. We thought it was hilarious because he was

the only adult male we knew who was VERY ticklish. So, my uncle

would run (probably in fear) from a bunch of silly girls. It would

get to the point where my aunt would have to pull us off him because

he couldn't breathe and was in tears.

Even now, he has to be in his 40s or 50s and he does NOT have fond

memories of this. If you walk up to him looking like you have an

outstretched finger, he still flinches.

I'm not really sure if this is your " friend " or a friend. If he's

not that kind of friend, this is weird. :-) Try to touch his navel

in his sleep or suggest it to someone who would be in a position to

do that. If he does not react (e.g. wake up, grimace in his sleep,

etc.) then it is probably more the anticipation of being touched

that is causing the problem.

I hope this is helpful.

Take care,

mjd
