Candace...Yes it has come to mean any hot pepper , as well as the red cayenne pepper.

You should not dry them at high temps to preserve the "goodness". Most cayenne powders are dried at high temps and have a "smokey "smell as a result......Mary O

Isn't the term "cayenne" just used to describe any hot pepper?

I've read that putting herbs in a dehydrator sucks the oils out of them and its the oils that does the good!?!

Anyone know?
